Discount tire won't sell me Mich.pilot SS's
They are telling me that the front tire load index for the C63 is 95 and the tire rating for the 245/35/19 PSS is only a 93. I did confirm the numbers on the Michelin website.
Is the c63 too heavy for these tires?????
If so whats the next best choice???
Confused-----

Tirerack had no issue... they are XL tires. Go to Tirerack and enter your C63 and they will suggest PSS as an option OEM sizes. They are extra load tires just like the crappy OEM Contis. No issue. If they don't work because of load issues, Tirerack won't show them as an option (for example, it doesn't show AD-08s as they are not XL tires). Discount Tire is wrong.

Thanks. News to me. My CPO came with the Micheline PSS so I'm still learning.
I recall just yesterday looking at the discounttire.com web site, and it recommended the PSS tires as their best recommendation.
This is the same company as America's Discount Tire.

I would stick with PSS over the OEM tires. The PSS are MUCH better in every way including tread life.

The load rating for the PSS in the size the OP is looking at is 92 (1389lb) and the C63 specifies 95 (1521) in the front.
It's pretty cut and dry.

How are they wrong?

EDIT: Just checked Continental's website. The Continental 5P is an 87 front and 91 rear load rating (1,356b lbs). Both are also classified as XL. So, it would seem the PSS is at least as good or better than what comes OEM on the C63 when looking at 19" sizes. So, based on this, the PSS have to be fine as they are rated at least as well as OEM tires in terms of load.

When I bought the PSS, I spoke to Tirerack and they told me I had to go with an XL tire and that works fine with the C63. For example, the told me I should not run the AD-08 but the PSS worked fine. Having said that, I did go 245 on the front and that size has a slightly higher load rating. If you do a search on Tirerack for the car, it doesn't show tires with a standard load rating (too low). Also, the Conti 5P (OEM) on Tirerack only shows a load rating of 1,356 (maybe incorrectly, who knows)... same thing for the Pirelli and Yoko Advan (both have come OEM on the C63). In any event, Tirerack said any XL tire is fine and I generally trust their advice especially considering some C63s come with tires with load ratings less than 1,521 from the factory.

Both the front OE 18" tire options have a load rating of 95. You seem to gravitate to tirerack so here's a link you can look at.

Here's the PSS in 19" on TR for the OE size

That being said, there's quite a bit of safety margin so a 92 will likely never cause an issue BUT, it is under rated for our car.

Not sure if there is a connection. Maybe. I'm just guessing. But that could be one explanation why they turned you down.

Thanks for the inputs!
From my research it appears there are NO high preformance tires in the 245/35/19 size with a load index of 95. MB put michelin pilot sports on my CPO car and it looks like they have a 91 index. Something is wrong with the rating for the c63!!! I am now more confused!!!

XL is just a category that holds more than one load rating. I got the 92 from Michelin's website for the size the OP specified.

Last thing... . Every 19" tire that Tirerack notes as "Original Equipment" for the C63 has a max load of 1,356lbs. I don't mean to sound argumentative on this but there is no way that any tire with a maximum load > than 1,356lbs is required... because even MB doesn't require it when they ship the tires on the car from Germany.
The specs on the OEM Continental are attached... note that Continental even notes them as Mercedes tires yet they are only rated at 1,356lbs!!!

I completely understand what you are saying. What I was trying to explain was that the PSS you posted above are rated at 1,356lbs. This is the SAME as the Continental 5P tires in OEM sizes that came standard on my car from the factory. Therefore, if a tire with a maximum load of 1,356lbs is under rated then MB ships the car from the factory with under rated tires. My conclusion on this (right or wrong) is that if PSS have the same maximum load as the Conti 5P then they are absolutely fine for the C63. Also, not that it should matter but your link to the Conti tires are the 18" versions above which, for some reason, have higher load ratings than the 19" version. Both come standard, however, for our cars. Again, clearly this is telling us that a 1,356 lb rated tire is acceptable to MB.

They have a specific Mercedes spec in their listing for the front OE 19" size. I wouldn't think MB would ship the car with an under rated tire.
I'd be interested to see the rating on the sidewall of a 19" OE tire from the factory.

There was a thread by a member who destroyed his PSSs on a MB by doing burn outs. Not sure where he got them from. I do remember reading that he took them somewhere else for the Michelin warranty, satisfaction guarantee.

Discount Tire's policy is simple and understandable. To avoid liability issues they will not put a tire on a vehicle that is not rated for that vehicle per the specification, regardless of what the real world experience is.

Jim - Your original equipment Sport Contact 5's have a max load rating of 1356 lbs. The 235/35R19 Pilot Super Sports (even though a 91Y) also come with a max load rating of 1356 lbs. This is due to their Extra Load designation. A 245/35R19 Pilot Super Sport carries a a service description of 93Y and a max load rating of 1432 lbs (it too is an extra load). Give me a call if I can answer any other questions. Thanks,

Different user.. I was the guy who started that thread.. I however did not eat my tires, I also went with Hankooks.. which appear to suck... so I might just eat my tires up when I get back from Vegas and go with a different brand.

So, according to Continental they use the 235/35R19 Z XL (MO) FR TL ContiSportContact 5 P for the OE 19" front.
The MO fitment is Mercedes-Benz specific and has a reinforced sidewall but here's the kicker which is a little odd IMO. They do not list the "actual" upgraded load rating rating on the sidewall. They list the standard load rating with the MO specification.
Read these top to bottom
Thank you very much for the info.
Given that the tire in question has a load rating of 87, does that mean Mercedes-benz is installing an under rated tire on front of the C63 AMG? The minimum load rating is 95.
Or does Continental have a custom reinforced side wall version that is used?
There was more info in the email trail but I think this is enough to set things straight and kill the unknowns.
