Teach Me About K&N Air Filters

I ordered two K&N Air Filters that I can go ahead and pick up tomorrow. I've done a bit of reading into them and I think I want to take out these stock filters and put these in and possibly do a charcoal delete. The charcoal delete is the part that's confusing me a bit.

Is the charcoal part of the new k&n filer or is it a seperate thing that I need to remove? Is there anything else I should know/be careful about?

.
Separate. Remove the charcoal and when re-attaching the box tops, make certain the seal is 100% or you may have a possible CEL.

So the charcoal filter is just a second filtration that is not needed (emissions related or something)? Is this just a U.S thing because I think ROW intake boxes don't have them right?

Avoid the case that the filter is over oiled, take it out for couple of days before you install.

OP you need to be very careful about how you lift up the plastic piece with the Merc badge. It is very easy to crack it (ask me how I know). Start with the front and work back.

Otherwise the rest of the install is elementary.

i think what ATT means is after you recieve them, and open the filters out of the bag, let them sit for a few hours so the excess oil drips off..
