There are lots of cars around with a big V8.......but they don't sound like a C63, or indeed some of the other AMGs of the same era.
So, IMHO, it's the exhaust system that is responsible, particularly from the cats back.....I think AMG have really concentrated on getting "that certain sound". Has anyone read the book "That Certain Sound", about the very famous John Wyer.....very famous Race Team Manager....ran the Ford GT40s at Lemans!!!

I agree with Pickles. It's the great M156 + a finely tuned exhaust system.
I believe the Lexus LFA contracted Yamaha to get a distinct tone from their exhaust. I find it hard to believe that AMG got the wonderful exhaust song by accident.

Way to go AMG! Don't ever go the way of Bimmer that now reproduces engine sound via car speakers, ala F10 M5.
