I was planning on getting a dash camera for safety. Would gopros or traditional digital video cameras be better. I want clear, smooth video, without shaking. Opinions?

Gopro doesnt record that long. I think mine has a record time of 3 hours fully charged

I usually don't drive for more than 1 hour at a time. It's just for safety reasons and evidence. More and more crazy ***** on the road trying to cause accidents for claims.

I thought I read somewhere before about someone using GoPro and having it loop and erase older data first after the memory is full. If that's the case, then it will also work as a black box type of camera for insurance purpose.

It's a little confusing when the big red letters say $249 until August 3rd.

I am assuming you meant September 3rd sine the smaller black text says Aug 19 - Sept 3rd.

I also don't see Motorsports Edition mentioned, but is that for $249 as well?

I went to the GoPro website and saw no mention of that capability. I'm in the throes of deciding on which dashcam to install and the Hero2 would be a no-brainer if it had continuous loop capability. A pity, seems to be rather easy to implement. $249 is an excellent price...

I think the differences are the types of accessory/mounting packages that come with the camera. I think it's the same base unit.

Does it have a motion detector? This will allow the camera to start recording if someone is close to it. Useful when people mess with your car in a parking.
