Engine Rebuild-How many KM to Oil Change

My car is getting new internals including Pistons, Rings and all Bearings.
Becuase of this I am planning to change the oil before the next service is due, How many KMs should I do on the new Engine before the Oil and Filter Change?
I am thinking about 1500 KM.

(a)'12 C63 P/P, LSD, 19" m/spoke,comfort pack. (b)Astra SRI.
Question

Your dealer will advise you....but I'd reckon 1000-1500ks sounds OK to me.
Cheers, Pickles.

My BMW dealer told me to come back for a 1k miles oil change in a similar situation, so right around the mileage you are considering. FWIW I looked at the filter element also...there were definitely fine metal particles in there.

I think it depends how you broke it in.. Seeing the engine has been reassembled outside of MBENZ AMG Germany I would be more inclined to get it done earlier. Who knows the place that put it back together should throw in a free oil change

Run it hard. Change at 500km.

Get all that assembly lube and wear in particles out of the engine.

I would reckon somewhere around the 1000-1500km mark is a good idea ie at the end of the run in period. See if you can ask the dealer to do it as part of a post rebuild check?

well, i wouldnt run it hard, as someone recommend, but most factory engines are broken in at the factory. a rebuild may require an early oil change just to get the s|-|it out of there.

500km should be fine. it certainly wont hurt to change the oil early.

Run it like a grandpa so it burns oil for 10000km.

My pops breaks his engines in on a engine dyno, sets the ignition and changes the oil right after. Never had a problem, engines run great.

Merc is right. You need to run it on the hard side - and regularly allow it to decelerate off-throttle - to force the piston rings to completely contact the cylinder walls. Really!

Especially if they aren't rehoning the cylinders and your running synthetic oil... Run it hard

Why are you doing an engine rebuild?

RR Evoque Dynamic, Benz Valente (work hack)
There is a special 'running in oil'. Its mineral based as well and you usually change it after 1000 klms.

No idea if thats what they do over in Germany though.

The thing should have a warranty though?

Run it hard for 500km. Change oil to synthetic and you're good.

Morgan,
Remembering your previous posts you had the head gasket and lifter failure that puked your engine. In accordance with the service bulletin your dealer should run the engine with new oil for a few hours then change the oil and filter before delivery to you. I'd go about 1,000 miles after that and change it again. As for pushing the engine really hard, I'd advise against that. It might help the rings to set faster (they will eventually anyway) but its not the best idea for the bearings as they take a bit of time to take a set with the crank and rods. It's more important to run it at various RPM's to get everything to set in properly. Best of luck and glad to hear you got the issue resolved.
