Tire Opinions

My PSS are in really rough shape on the rears. I was planning on driving them until my winters go on in Novemebrish but I dont think I can wait that long with these tires. Do any of you know a cheap, sticky tire to put on the rears for the next few months. I dont want PSS because Im geting 19" rims for next spring and am currently running the stock 18s. Your inputs would be more than helpful!!!

If you want really sticky (moreso than the PSS) and relative cheap, look at the Hankook RS-3.

I heard these tires couldnt be driven on the street in the rain...it was too dangerous. Is this true?

They are street tires so they absolutely can be. They are not as good as the PSS in the wet but many, many people DD these tires. I don't know this first hand but know two guys who run them daily without any issues.

Check out Bridgestone RE-11s for your next tire. They are unreal, dry and wet.

One thing that blew me away was how good they are in the rain. It was like it was dry out.

The newer continentals they use as OEM, are they pretty decent? I like mine so far aside from road noise but assume they are probably pricey for the amount of performance.

Agreed except they are $$$ and the OP is looking for something to get him through until next year when he goes 19".

Just throw on something cheap.

The difference between the cheapest tire on tirerack and the RE11 traction wise for me was, the cheap tire will spin most of 1st gear and chirp 2nd, while the more expensive RE11 will spin half of 1st gear and take off.

Unless you are road racing, i doubt you will notice.

I managed a 70sec on all season tires (CHEAP) at the local road racing course and 69sec with the RE11s...

That is surprising actually that the difference was so small for you. My RE11 (on my previous M3) were about 1.5 seconds faster than my PSS on a course that is about 1:20s. Actually, on second thought, that might make some sense. The RE11 being 1 second faster but on a much shorter (70 sec) track. I still would have thought the difference would have been more though... RE11 maybe being 1 sec faster than a PSS which would be 1 sec faster than a cheapo summer.

Anyway, you are right... if you are just getting buy until the end of the season, get the cheapest thing you can find.

I love my Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star spec's. There awesome!
Why would you consider looking at cheap tires?

AMG GLC63. Audi R8
Tires for the rear of a C63 fall into 2 catagories: expensive tires that wear out fast and inexpensive tires that wear out fast.

I think the biggest issue is the weight of the car. I was pushing it pretty hard, anymore and I think a crash was imminent.

Ok so I had the Kumhos installed today and here are my first impressions. At first they felt awful -they were better than worn PSS but not as much grip as I remembered from the PSSs. As I drove with the traction in SPORT for a bit I was really hard on them working them in. Once I got to the Highway (about 15 min drive) I took the on ramp at a retarded speed and they stuck like glue! -I was starting to get impressed! After more hard driving my first impressions are that they arent as composed as the PSS but they have much more grip and handle much better than the stock Contis. For the money these tires are amazing! Two rears were only slightly more money than what one rear PSS costs! I have yet to determine tread wear but so far these tires look like a promising alternative for those that like to shred rubber! Oh and running two different tires front and rear isnt a problem at all. The only thing I can say is that currently the rears stick better than the fronts so accelerating through turns feels a bit odd since the rears are sticking slightly quicker than the fronts. Im sure this sensation will go away soon lol
