Drove an SLS for the first time || PICS UPDATED
PICS BELOW!
I arrived in Sweden on monday for a 4 day business trip. I had heard that Sixt rents SLS's so i contacted them. Luckily they had one available; a roadster. Red with beige roof, the car is just awesome. Our beloved C's are quick but this is a monster and oh the handling... I want one so bad but there is no justification for paying 400k € for it in Finland
I have to move....
2 more days of enjoying this beauty. I'm in love with a red head
I'd love to upload pictures but i just don't have the patience to resize them (see my signature...) so here's a link:

I think the SLS has the most grip of all the AMG cars. More so than the CLK63 BS and C63 BS.
On the taxi ride around the tarck by Tommy Kendall in the SLS, we went around a few corners at 120 mph, and the car was just glued thru and thru.
I myself drove the SL63 around the same corners and the SLS right after that and I was waay more confident around the corners. Also the steering is VERY sensitive on the SLS. Needs very less input and its effortless. I wish I had more track time with the SLS than the total of 2 hrs we got to play with it..

Probably because the engine is behind the front axle on the SLS. Look at our cars and 3/4 of the motor hangs off the front end past the front axle.

The SLS-a-la Laguna Seca was amazing - did laps driving and riding in the SLS. There is a reason that the SLS is the flagship AMG performance vehicle.

I love the cars you have at home! Did you get to drive your C Black at Laguna? If so, how was it in acceleration, braking and turn in compare to the SLS

Haha - thanks. I did not get to drive a / my C63BS at Laguna Seca - went to the ADA before I purchased my BS. That said, conceding the horsepower discrepancy, I think the BS and SLS would perform in very similar ways re: grip / balance / etc. It would be a blast to find one of each car and lap them back to back.

I'll upload pics later today, i'm in the plane on my way back to helsinki atm. It was an amazing four days.
Some impressions. First thing i noticed was that our C's feel quicker on the immediate take off...it feels kinda like it's really awakening at 3000+ rpm, but when it does...phew..
I did some more heavy cornering, 180 curves etc and, still, it is just a fantastic piece of engineering. Kudos AMG..really.
Also it gathers a lot more looks than the C I was told the roadster has a modified exhaust from the gullwing as to magnify the sound into the cabin and with the roof down. It was a splendid roar! Every time you start the car it's a low rumbling sound, quite different from the C's. Always full with anticipation when i turned on that ignition
As for the rent, there was no downpayment and it was 450 € per day, with a limit of 100 km per day. As i had it for 4 days (only 3 x 24h) as i picked it up rather late, i had 300 km of fun. After that, every km was 2 €. I drove it approximately 450 km. Unfortunately, during that time i did not really get to enjoy it the way it is meant to be enjoyed, on the track. Some other day in the future i definitely will

I just got back from the Driving Academy at Texas and came away with the following impressions:
The SLS is fun and confidence inspiring. What a treat to spend so much time in that car!
The SL63 surprised me. It was fast and handled really well.
The C63 was nearly as much fun as the SLS. I thought it sounded better than the SLS.
I can't say enough about how well run the AMG Driving Academy event was. It was a total adrenalin rush. Having significant seat time in every performance AMG sans the black series was heaven!

The hot lap with Tommy Kendall was a rush! He took some slightly different lines at some slightly different speeds than me!!
I would encourage everyone to take advantage of this free event with the purchase of your AMG. I will definitely be looking into the advanced program.

I also drove the SLS at an AMG Driving Academy. I did not have the C63Black on the track however. So I cannot provide any back to back comparisons. Maybe others here can.
I felt the two cars were very close. Both provided engaging drives with wonderful road feel. They also sound similar (although the Black has a bit of a deeper rumble). Both had tremendous grip around the bends and accelerated quickly (although the SLS felt faster). The steering on the Black seemed a bit more communicative, but the differences were very, very minor. Both had incredible stopping power.

my wife bananas! :D
got to drive one again today at the AMG performance tour.... hmm got to drive (just off my memory)
sls
sl63
slk 55
cls 63
c63
ml63
and others but i forget now lol
anyways, because I was able to drive all these cars in such a short period of time, I can honestly say the sls is a home run. it hugs turns, quick off the start and oh the exhaust note is beautiful. It really is a special special car.
Getting in and out of it however requires special training
