Tire leak definition

So what is the opinion of the members of this board that constitute a small/slow tire leak? B

When I lived in SoCal I was getting my tires refilled every 4 weeks or so.

Then I switched to nitrogen and haven't had any problems since.

How often are your tires losing air? Is it just the one or multiple?

Well I just filled them up but I got a message that the front right tire was 40 then a day later was 37 just refilled it so we will see what happens. Can an MB dealer put nitrogen in your tires ?

You can have 5-7 psi differences at these pressures with cold/warm(driven) tires. I used to measure in the AM after it sat all night. IDK about nitrogen, I get why folks use it, but air is already about 80% nitrogen anyhow. Does that last 20% make a big diff? Maybe for race teams, IDK.

Mine range from 37-41 depending on driving and weather so I wouldn't be too alarmed. Mine used to drop to 33-34 and then the system message would turn on saying low tire pressure. That's when I would fill them up again.

As much as I would like to think it doesn't make a difference, for whatever reason, my tires kept leaking air. Once I got the nitrogen I didn't fill again for 3 months. I have no explanation for it.

A loss of one lb over 7-10 days is a leak to me. The leak is relative to your other tires, of course. The only time I check that I consider reliable and repeatable is in the morning, in the garage.

I check my tires in the morning as well. Compressed air will fluctuate more than nitrogen due to water condensation.

It's normal for your tires to lose few lbs after few months of driving. For example, all my tires lost about 5 lbs during the summer driving (5-6 months)... I just refilled them back to 38 psi (I have aftermarket wheels & non-runflat tires).

My conclusion is as long as all your wheels are loosing air at the same rate, you do not have a leak... just fill them up as needed. but if 1 wheel lose air faster than the other 3, then have them check for bead leaks or nails in tire.

Ok why does the tire pressure 38-40-41-42 say correct tire pressure if they are all within 4lbs of each other what is the protocol that sets these off ?
