Media Interface Plus (MIP) from Mercedes
Hey Guys two questions:
Is the Media Interface Plus (MIP) from Mercedes the best way to import contacts if you have an IPhone and is it worth it?

When you sync the phone via Bluetooth for the first time it just transfers over....don't recall if there is a prompt or anything. Sync, wait a minute, then go to "names" and they are all just there.

First go into the multi media system settings on the car and make sure that your blutooth is on and make sure your phone is connected with the car. Then go to the import business card on the car, next go to your phone blue tooth settings and select MB blutooth....hit your menu button on the phone and you should see something like transfer contacts

I have an 09 and it's a little different than 12. I think it's a little more compatible with devices but I'm not really sure. Mine is just called MMP....multi media package

Apparently you can import contacts and listen to Internet radio. But then I came across another guy who said you don't need that at all to import contacts. But the guy who told me to get the MIP said its the only way to import contacts.

On pre facelift cars, the iPhone can not transfer contacts over BT without MIP. You can only transfer over BT with blackberry and some Android phones.
On the 2012+, when you connect the iPhone, it automatically downloads the contact list every time, so you don't have to do it manually.
I've had both cars, and that's how they were. If you really want your contacts from your iPhone on a pre-facelift car without MIP, you have to export them all onto a CF card on your computer through a convoluted process, insert a CF into PCMCIA adapter, insert into car, then import business cards. It's a PITA process.

Also after watching this review video on MIP :

I don't think it's worth the $$$.

It's because Mercedes decided to use some old and obscure interface standards that the iPhone didn't support. Of course, the iPhone was barely available when the W204's were introduced, not sure why they didn't update it mid cycle, or not having a software upgrade path in their designs. They fixed it for the facelift, BT audio streaming, contact lists, everything works except play back text messages, that seems to be a blackberry thing only.

You can have my MIP for 100 bux and you pay shipping.
Its as new, I used it in my 2010, worked great, pandora features are cool as well.
I dont need it now as I have a 12 C-BS.

I do not think the comment about pre-facelift cars is correct. In my 09, all I did was sync the phone via BT (iphone 4s) and all the contacts came over. No MIP.
