How to identity Performance Package on 2009 C63?
Hi all-
I'm planning on picking up a low mileage 2009 C63 and need some advice... I only want to buy a fully loaded car this time around. I got serious buyers remorse on the E55 I bought a couple cars back which had no options whatsoever. Not even Nav! The screen in the dash basically didn't do anything. Very lame.
The performance package is an absolute must have, as I can't imagine having this car without an LSD. Parktronic is also important, I've gotten used to it in my M5 and now don't want to live without it.
Many of the listings on cars.com or autotrader have few to no details about what options the cars are equipped with. Usually these are cars listed at off-brand dealers like mazda/chevy/carmax. I'm sure the salesmen have no idea what packages these cars might come with, so they don't add any details.
This seems to be somewhat of an opportunity to me, in that possibly I could buy a very well equipped car for less than I might have to pay at a more competent or specialized dealer where all the packages were identified.
I'm shopping nationwide, so the problem is, how to identity these options from listing photos? I read somewhere that only cars with the performance package have the suede steering wheel. I've spotted quite a few cars which have this feature but no mention of the perf package in the listing details. I've also read that the calipers or engine cover are different in some way, but I haven't been able to see this difference when comparing photos of cars with PP vs. without.
Also parking sensors... any way this can be identified remotely? BMWs and Audis seem to have the sensors visible on the bumpers, I'm not sure Merc is the same way.
Any info would be appreciated!

Interesting. I hadn't heard about this issue before. From what I can tell, 2010 vs 2009 is a huge jump in price. Median price difference might be $7-10k for a similar mileage car. 10's seem to be around $55k vs $45k for a 2009. I wonder if it would be more cost effective to perform the aftermarket bolt replacement on a 2009 vs. buying a 2010 for solely this reason?

The M156 complaint is overrated. There have been very few documented blown motors and I am not sure the 2010 do not have that issue.
Your best bet is to get your local dealer to pull the car's info with VIN number.
If alcantara wheel then it should be a P30 car. Most likely it will have LSD but only way to know for sure is the dealer sheet.
For the other options, the Multimedia package = screen that raises up and down, leather seats, Xenon and HK radio should be obvious by just looking at picture of car.

My 09 only has an x pipe and I rip p31's up to 80-90 mph lol.
50000 miles of HARD daily driving and no problems *knock on wood*. Just a bunch of new tires haha. Headbolt issue isn't as common as people make it out to be imho

Be careful, early P30's had consistency issues where some came without certain elements of the package. IE you'll see some with no alcantara wheel, or no LSD....make sure the package is complete by doing a PPI to ensure everything is as it should be.

My '09, for example, is NOT a P30 car. But I do have the LSD and top speed delimiter (verified by original window sticker). So like rory said...there are some mish-mashed cars out there.
