I get that warning about every 2,000 miles. I now try to add a quart around every 1,000 miles. Dealer told me this is normal....

For me, it's normal, I added 3 times Oil in my engine during 9000 km (two track days in those 9000 km)
It depend also of the viscosity, many oils can be filled in the C63 engine, 0W30, 0W40, 5W30 and 5W40, and one of them can be consumed more than the normal

I'm using 5W40 Motul.
So far 8000kms and the oil level on my dipstick has not moved.
I'm thinking and hoping my break in driving is to blame =O)

Simply a matter of opinion.
When the oil is put into the engine....the oil is cold when it is checked....the oil is in the sump, not in various parts of the engine....so I know EXACTLY what's in, or not in, there. So, when I check it again, I can see exactly, if any, what I've lost.
But, if ya know the right point on your dipstick to check it when it's hot, & you're comfortable with that....well, that's ok too....up to you?
Cheers, Pickles.

Yes. Crucial detail you may or may not have known. Excellent addition CoolB! Check your fluid warm. CoolBDPhenom03 was correct. Go to the AMG screen on the LCD and when your oil gauge stops blinking (about 175) it is warm and can be evaluated then.

With the engine at operating temperature, the vehicle must be stationary for at least 5 minutes with the engine turned off before checking the oil level.
With the engine not at operating temperature, the vehicle must have been stationary for at least 30 minutes with the engine turned off.
I am with Pickles, I check my oil level in the car first thing in the morning after sitting overnight.

From the Operator's Manual:

Whoa! I guess I am so used to operating off the thought process for my Land Cruiser, that I never payed that much attention. I do usually check it warm, as the manual states(I didn't read or know that), after siting for a few minutes. I am now with Pickles and Mort.
I will be checking my oil in the beginning of the day, after it sat all night BEFORE I fire up the engine. Thanks for "schooling" me!!
I love this site.
