Messed up...*sigh* any help?

So i went to go get my tail lights painted, the red part, not the reverse taillight part. But guess what, my lights BARLEY show at night unless i brake. It's really bothering me, could i get stronger red bulbs to replace the oem ones, or do i need a new set

Before you go out and buy new ones, "stronger bulbs" are not an option, trying buffing off the paint. Similar to the methods out there to get rid of hazy, dull, or dingy headlamps, you should be able to buff the thin layer of film/paint right off. Or at least enough to where your lights should be clearly visible(no pun intended). This seems like it should be an easy fix. I do understand your angst, as I have screwed my car up many times.

By the way, out of curiosity, why did you paint them?

I've tried buffing off some of it with no avail, apparently that shop used paint that wouldn't come off, all they did was say "it's on the house". I really like how they look, but people have been pulling up next to me at night telling me to turn my lights on .

Try stepping up the coarseness of the pad. Instead of the soft buffing pad, try using a pad with fine grit and work you way up. If you "might" have to replace anyway, it does not hurt to try. But do it in stages, as I stated, starting with super fine and see what happens. That shop should have known better or at least brought it to your attention before they proceeded. Because, it's pretty dark.

All I can think of now and trying to help. Good luck!!

Bring your car to a shop who knows what they are doing. They are going to have to sand off the paint and most likely clear them and buff. Wish you were local. www.xclusvautosports.com is where its at. They fix stuff like this daily lol

Right, that's what I was referring to, but you do not need a shop. Tape off your car well, so you don't sand any paint, or remove the lights completely. And start with the finest grit pad you can. When all the "smoke" is clear, buff and you are good-to-go!

Sorry but you're sacrificing looks for safety. It's a bad trade. If you ever get rear ended it's going to be your fault. Go back to stock lenses.

Took it to a couple tint places, no one would do it because it's "three dimentional", they all reffed me to paint shops.

Sorry to hear your mishap. We all have done mistakes in our life. No one is perfect.
I do not believe you can just buy the tail cover. Go to the dealer so they can tell you if it comes separate from the light unit.
I would try like others have proposed to sand the lens. You have nothing to lose.
If you need to buy new ones, do not go to the dealer and buy it from www.mercedesparts.com for example.
Good luck.

If you go with getting new tail lights I would say to get the new ones. The are one dimensional to so you can get them tinted if you wanted

all paint can be sanded off, it just may have several more coats to remove. I would work on that before dropping like 600$+ on some tail lights

You need to find a better shop lol. I know it's too late now, but places that install clear bra (3m) would be able to do it. There's a special exterior glass paint protection tint film just for doing that.
