Winter Prep Time

Just installed my Snow Tires (Michelin PA4 255.35.19's), Cursory oil change, antifreeze check to -50, Ethanol added to windshield washer fluid and WeatherTech Digital Fit Floor-liners installed.

First impressions of the PA4 is they are dead quite on dry road. Dry handling is at the top of the chart as well (-1C) . Will update once I get into some ice and snow>>>

Absolutely sick that you are driving a BS in the salt and snow.

Poor car.

If I may ask, what size tire did you go with in the rear? Are you concerned at all with the extra tire height due to going 35 AR vice 30 (I think it's about 1/2 taller")?

255.35.19 all around. The extra 1/2" rear wheel width compensates for any height difference nicely. I went with this set up after speaking with Fritz Eichler, AMG's Drivetrain Director about their recommended winter setup. 255.35.19 on OEM wheels is what they used during cold weather testing. He also commented that during cold weather testing the BS Coupe was the drivers favourite. The c55 and C63 Sedan were a blast to drive in winter. Can't wait for some snow>>>>

Ah OK, I remember now that the 255's are 30mm less wide than the stock BS wheels.

Are the tires stretched at all? Sorry for probing I'm still trying to find a good tire setup for my AMG.

No noticeable stretching in the rears. On my C63 sedan I ran 245.40.18 all around on OEM 18 5 spoke wheels. MB Canada recommended a 235 all around but I found the rears were a little too stretched so we moved up one size.

Hope this helps

Poor car.
It is encouraging to see someone actually driving a car like this, rather than it being a garage queen. This is why I'm selling my GT-R and looking for a decent AMG to be my daily/only driver.

This is one of the few BS's that actually sees the track. So it's get driven!

But to winter drive this beauty is just sad. Winters here are disgusting, rocks, SALT, etc. It will just kill the condition of the car.

A car like this deserves to be stored away for the winter.

I respectfully disagree. I feel its a shame not to drive them in winter. My c55 and c63 sedan both saw full time winter driving and when sold were in better than showroom condition. My cars also get pampered all year round. Anyone that knows me knows how well I maintain them>>>

Winter is just a minor blip in the radar.

Hi Barry,

Thats sick you're winter driving the BS! -I totally approve! Please let us know how the tread wear is on the winters! I too just put my winters on today and after rotating am going to go for 2 seasons on the Hankook W310s (They have great tread wear but I feel dont have the same limit as the Michelins. Not sure though...) Anyways sorry to hijack the thread but maybe this can be about those of us who winter drive our AMGs... heres some pics from today of my C63 in winter mode!

Just did my winter setup on my cls63tt a week ago. I went with the Pirelli Sottozero. Love them so far. Another joy of driving those powerful cars during winter is the cold air...feels like I gained an extra 50 hp and 50 decibels from my engine!

I had the same Pirelli's on a CTS-V I used to own. We didn't have snow here last Winter, but the tires kept me from slipping on the road like the stocks did.

Driving the C63 year round as well. I'll be putting on Blizzak WS70 and Weathertech mats this weekend.

actually MB recommends 235/35r19 all around or 225/40/r18

The 225 on the 18 OEM rear wheel was a big stretch and compromised the footprint. Snow traction was marginal. Switching up to the 245 was a big improvement in snow

Correct. Narrower tires with larger sidewalls are ideal for wintry condition.
