Tire Decision?
Hi, so I recently just murdered my continentals in 4,200 miles from driving pretty rough. I have the stock 18" AMG rims, and I have a couple of questions:
1. Is it normal that I worn down my tires after 4,500 miles?
2. I am looking into Michelin Pilot Super Sports and was wondering if this setup was good:
245/40/18 97y (Fronts)
265/40/18 101y (Rears)
If not, what would be a better setup for the price?
Please help me out fast, because I am running on this tire...

Lots of guys have worn their rears in 4500 - 5000 miles of aggressive driving.
The Michelin PSS are great and very well liked by a lot of members. You can run what you mention but I think the rear are 265/35/R18 not 265/40/R18. You can also go upsize to 275/35/R18 on the rear. Michelin have a 15000 mile prorated warranty. Ask before you buy.
Another choice might be the Hankook V12 to save some $$$$.
Take it easy on that tire in the wet.

i think the rear aspect ratio of 40 would look a little too tall. and are you lowered? looks like your rear camber is off.

thanks, however I'm not lowered, completely bone stock. I wasn't really paying attention to the camber that much but will check it out right now.

That looks a bit weird how the outter side of your tire has relatively a lot of life left and inside is gone!
I have had both V12 and PSS and would hands down go for PSS with a 275 in the rear. These cars are suffering from narrow factory tires.

LOL murdered is the exact word i would describe on that rear tire
super sports are the defacto favorite on here. i am still using the oem continental 5p. i got 3k on the first set of rears and I have gotten 7k on this last set and they are about bald. my front:rear ratio is 3:1 right now

Usually when a tire is not evenly wearing in the rear (if its rear wheel drive) it has to do with suspension issues. This can also lead to quicker wear on the tires. I know this from experience. I didn't believe it till I was on my second set and the suspension problem actually got worse to the point I could feel it myself. Now that was not on a MB product but a Ford GT.

This car has aggressive toe in out of the box and 2°+ of negative camber.
If you want to save some tire life you can dial out some of the toe.

You can adjust toe in the rear to neutral and camber. For camber you need to buy OEM adjustable camber bolts from the e/cls/sl models (search: camber bolts). You will need 2, they are about 50-60$ each if I remember correctly.
I kept factory aggressive settings, I still get over 10K +mi out of my rears which is over a year of driving for me.

i am partial to the bridgestone re11's. seems like most members here don't really care for them. i don't believe they come in 275/35, though, which may be part of the reason.
