A Few Questions About LSD
I know this may be kind of silly, but what exactly does an LSD do? I'm thinking about getting it installed, but realized I'm only saying that, because everyone here says how it's needed. I've got a Eurocharged tune on my car and I'm either going to get new wheels next or get this LSD and get it installed. I don't track the car, but drive hard every chance I get (mostly on straightaways).
Also, what is the average labor cost of having one installed? I know there are a couple different ones, but is one easier to install than the other?

It's amazing what you can find on Google:

so in the most simplest form...is the lsd mainly for turning purposes? for whatever reason, i was always under the impression that it helped the tires not spin out during drag racing and whatnot.

After 3 years on MBWorld this is what I can tell you:
- people who have an LSD love it and say it's a must
- poeple who don't have it, say it's not worth it for daily driving.
I don't have one and don't feel like I need it.
Just FYI, in 2008 when the first C63s were coming out, I've seen multiple tests on race tracks where it was shown that an LSD-equipped car was max. 2 seconds faster on a whole track lap than a non-LSD car.
So all in all, if your car is a DD I think it's not worth it.

if you had all the nannys turned off and didn't have the factory LSD will both tires spin during burnouts? will they both turn when you get the car sideways around a corner, left and right?

Yes, 2 seconds is a lot on the track.
But it's nothing when driving the car daily.
Without LSD, only one wheel will usually leave marks on the street.
I'm not sure what you mean with "will they both turn when you get the car sideways around a corner, left and right?"

(a)'12 C63 P/P, LSD, 19" m/spoke,comfort pack. (b)Astra SRI.
I specified the L.S.D. option because it was a "factory" "performance option, so I ordered it because I wanted all those sorts of options on the car.
However, with my sort of driving, & I reckon most normal forms of street driving, I don't think ya'd notice the difference, with or without it.
So, I don't think it's necessary, but I reckon that it shouldn't be an option, it should be standard, on a car of this nature.
Cheers, Pickles.

and two seconds per lap on a track is an eternity. over 30 laps that is one minute!!!!! that is getting beat by 600 car lengths!!!

A limited slip differential is mainly beneficial to putting down power on the exit of corners, which shows in better lap times. It also makes modulating wheelspin easier in a power oversteer drift - not fast, but fun.

If you do not drive your car aggressively, you are pissing your money away.
If you like to kick the back end out around a corner or two, you will love it. Much much more smoother and controlled.

there is an aftermarket diff that lots of people are using on here too right? doesn't it lock up even more than the factory one? how much is it? if i'm correct, the 09/10 c63's with the performance package have insanely expensive front disks on them so i was thinking of getting one without the package and then just doing the LSD. i believe it was called qualife?

Dont sweat about the front rotors.. There is cheaper after market ones too.
They last a lot longer than you would think too.. I have 50-60K KM on mine and only wore them down 1mm.. There is a little over 1mm more of wear in them before they hit the limit..
I could see a pair of front rotors lasting 100K km with street use.

Qualife is one aftermarket option.

Oops, it's actually a Wavetrac diff in my car.
It was drizzling lightly this morning, and I got a little aggressive on the throttle around a few 90 degree turns. It was immediately noticeable that the rear tires were finding better traction. I was getting a fun bit of wiggle at the back, but no flashing yellow light or that feeling of bogging down from esp intervention.

Glad to hear that there is more traction, that's something I cant seem to find one my car
