Car insurance that covers track days
I have Geico in Florida but I don't know if they will cover track days.
Just wondering which car insurance will cover for track days.
For those of you who track your cars, which insurance you are using?
Thank you
JV

I was covered by TD Meloche Monnex in Canada when I wrote off my M3 in the fall at Mosport. Typically you are only ensured at events which include instruction (both classroom and in-car) and have controlled passing (wave-by).
I was signed off driving alone at the time of the incident and was fully covered. It is critical to tell your insurer that it a closed road circuit with instruction and controlled passing. The words racing, race track or timed laps should never be uttered!

Track is dangerous. Don't track your car if you can't afford having it destroyed without coverage.
I hit an oil spill from a vette in front of me and almost lost it. I stopped doing track events after that. Too man unknowns.
If you ca get insurance go hard.

Most insurance companies try to exclude track days as racing or timed events (which HPDEs are really not). You have to look at your policy and exclusions. GEICO has issues with radar detectors so I'm sure that would not be interested in helping you out after a track day incident. See this and there are some other track day insurers:

Insurance depends on county, state and country. No idea on Canada, and for that matter most other states other than MD, VA and DC. In these states, you are not covered by your insurance the moment you drive onto a race track (hell, I suspect that if you were just going to a track to watch an event and got into a fender bender in the parking lot leaving they would probably give you grief trying to use your insurance....)
I have heard stories in the past (this is insurance fraud, do not do it..) of people wrecking at the track.. paying a tow truck driver to tow their vehicle a few hundred miles away, then pushing it off the road....
Most tracks however offer track day insurance, its not cheap (I believe Summit Point in WV offers it at $170 per day, at least that's what it was the last time I was there about 2 years ago).

I've seen many wrecks at HPDE's here in CA, all were covered by insurance. I hear more companies are writing in exclusions in their policies for HPDE's. Call your agent and ask. If they don't ,shop around for one that does.
