Can American car companies ever make their own designs?
I guess the highest form of flattery is imitation...
JUST LOOK AT ALL THE SIMILARITIES...we can pretty much list them...

Even the stats are almost the same...

I guess in all fairness, there are only so many reiterations of a car that companies can make. But I agree, very similar.

my wife bananas! :D
wow... it is similar. I wouldnt mind test driving it tbh... should be quite fun... and to see Chevy's take on it.
6.2l V8 as well... similar styling lines... Just googled the car for some interior pics as well as other angles of the exterior. the seats look nice and the interior as well. One thing about Chevy I do like is that their cars all look different from each other...

I know the SS has been in production for some time now but just look at that front bumper!!! WTF??!!!
Interior pics show steering wheel to be almost exact copy of C63...

Straight from MotorTrend
"Visually, the 2014 SS is virtually identical to the Holden VF SS-V, with the only real changes being the two cars' badging and grilles. The new SS almost has a Mercedes C63 AMG look to it, with wide, low-set HID headlamps and low-mounted LED running lamps flanking the foglights."

Well.. depending on how badly GM messes with the performance, this car could conceivably be a performance threat (I have not read any of the stories or looked at the performance specs yet). However, Holden, in true Aussie style.. likes to go over the top and they have some serious machines in their stable (GM can suck it, all the fun cars they make are over seas, we get the **** here.. can you say rebadged Open Astra as a freaking Saturn.. biggest piece of Junk...)...

Total bite
The thing is.....is that you can buy an Edelbrock blower for this, for like 6 grand and make 600hp....so many parts already out there for this drivetrain.

Okay.. so.. assuming the build quality is as good as the MB (which can sometimes be pretty ****ty), this thing is a threat.. a starting price close to $20k less then the C63, being only short a few HP in stock form. Performance parts for GM vehicles are plenty, and relatively cheap. The LS3 is a solid engine, and can take alot of modification before approaching the limits of self destruction, so for around $45k you could probably have a 600 to 800 HP monster.. with much bigger tires too :P
I will say after looking at the pictures.. it does look alot like out car, from teh cupholder (which is rotated 90 degrees off from ours), to the shifter, to the steering wheel, it looks very much the same as the C63.
And the fact that the car is offered with a manual in some parts of the world, it means that there is the option for easily (although might be costly getting the parts imported) switch from flappy paddle slushbox (GM gearboxes kinda suck) to a manual.

From having driven a Caprice PPV a fair bit, and although I haven't driven a C63, I have other W204's, I can't imagine the two being in the same league. I am sure some rednecks are going to love them and think they are perfect.
However, it does have a strong head start if it is actually assembled by Holden and misses the loving craftsmanship provided by the UAW!

(a)'12 C63 P/P, LSD, 19" m/spoke,comfort pack. (b)Astra SRI.
This car is based on the Aussie Holden "SS", which has been around in VE guise for 7 years. This is the VF "Update", which is not yet on sale in Oz.
You may think the car looks similar to an AMG from the image, but in the flesh, they are VERY different.
Yes, the LS3 engine is good, very good, but it will be replaced by the 6.2 LT1 in due course.
They are two very different cars...Mercedes & Holden, BUT if straight line performance is all you're after, then you'll be happy with this car, and as a prior poster has said, there's plenty you can do...to go faster.
But, whilst this car ain't any threat to AMG, I hope you guys buy squillions of them....because Holden need the sales.
Cheers, Pickles.

Unfortunately for Holden... people purchasing millions of these will not help the Aussies in the least, since the car will be built in the US (2 main reasons, one the US dollar is worthless, and valued at less then the AU dollar, so the cost to make them would be higher there, and well, the UAW would pitch a fit).
Holden is basically screwed, thanks to GM, which has a history of killing companies through stupid choices, anyone remember Saab, Pontiac.. soon to be adding Opel to the list
