When does the fans turn on if a thermostat is not installed? Basically, I'm asking how much of a temperature is expected over stock.

I use it. In fact, if you go to the MHP website and hit the products for the SLS, you will find a photo of the exact thermostst that is on my SLS right now. It even has the initals "GS", for Gulf Spec.

This thermostat mod is the biggest scam of the M156/M159 product. I tested it myself by my OBD device, which reads all data from the engine, including engine coolant temps. MHP/Andy claim a reduction of 20-25F in ECT. That is a lie. The readings before and after the install were the same.Tll this day,I have not seen my ECT drop.

The stock thermostat is priced around $114. What Andy does is purchase the thermostat and changes the spring, supposedly to open up at lower temps, which is BS. He then resells it for around $300. Oh I forgot to mention I bought mine from him for $500 for my SLS. I learned later that the thermostat used in the M156/M159 are exactley the same!

If you dont believe me, please go ahead and purchase it. when you do, log your car coolant temps before and after the install. When you find out that there are no changes, just remember that I told you so!

Hm. I see. I always thought this mod was a bit odd because I didn't fully understood how it helps with performance. ECU tune, headers, ROW boxes, etc. I can understand because it makes sense.

Thanks for the heads up SLSQatar.

BTW, any insight into the enlarged oil cooler on the website posted above? http://www.fluidmotorunion.com/archives/4493

Your welcome it is my pleasure.
I really haven't tried the oil cooler for FMU.
But I would've installed the oil cooler from the C63 Black Series if I haven't sold my C63

I have a mhp thermostat and I will tell what I noticed. In general driving duties it's @ the same temp with stock thermostat
How ever when cruising on the freeway at 100kmh the temp does drop considerably compared to stock. So it definitely runs cooler water temp only when cruising at fwy speeds. But around town there is no difference at all!

I advise you to wait for other customers reviews .. lol SLSQatar is not the best person to ask when it comes to MHP lol

It seems like a useless piece to me but you should wait for some other owners replies.

Listen,

I bought the thermostat from Andy, and I know what I am talking about. I tested it Before/After with log data. You yourself just said you thought its useless

You are a complete joke. You know nothing about tuning and have done nothing in this field to your AMG.

I have done most of it for the M156/M159 from Cat Delete to bolting on a supercharger on my bro's SL63 and soon on my SLS.

When you do 1/16th of what I did and take the time to actually be patient and perform it, then we will take you more seriously.

you don't even have an ECU tune for God's Sake, stop talkin. Really just stop!

Ok big boy Never said anything about tuning. Was just advising OP that you are clearly against MHP. That's all.

Enjoy your uber tuning skill

I had this on my car for some time and to be honest did not notice and cooler oil temps... especially for such an over priced product. If anyone wants to upgrade their oil cooler I would recommend upgrading to the BS oil cooler.
