Weistec M156 3.0L Stage 3 Supercharger Upgrade. Photos, Dyno, Vbox Record (Inside)
I wanted to do this write up a while back. We recently upgraded our M156 SL63 to the newly developed stage 3 Weistec SC kit. We also got the 722.9 bullet proof transmission and valve body upgrade along with the trunk ice tank.
Photos of the MCT transmission being removed before sending it to Weistec:
Here are some photos of the 3.0L system being installed.
The upgrade was completed around mid January. We tested the car on the Vbox and it went 6.86s from 60-130mph. World's Quickest VBOX Record for A Mercedes SL class from 60-130 . the record is on dragtimes on the following link
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-25207.html
(They somehow uploaded our previous dyno run with the 2.3 and thought it was the stage 3 dynosheet..lool)
During that time, the car was misfirng at cold starts. We took it to the dyno and it made 630whp/580wtq. The AFR was around 9.5-10. We later found out that the SC wasnt installed properly and it was causing Vacuum leaks. We later installed it properly and the misfiring at cold starts thankfully disappeared. The Supercharger was fitted correctly with no leaks
Luckily for us, Steve, Director of operations at Weistec, was in the Middle-East working on a few cars in the UAE. He was kind enough to fly out to us in Qatar to custom tune our SL63. A true gentleman who knows what he is doing. He came with all the tuning tools necessary and was commanding AFR and ignition timing changes at the dyno. ECU has a pump gas tune. We are very thankful that he helped us out. He gave us a few tips as well. Thank you Steve
This is Steven making map changes on the dyno. He made the AFR stable between 11.5-11.8:
Last dyno runs resulted at 671rwhp/617rwtq, here is the dyno sheet:
Car is absolutely a beast. I am more than confident that we will tap a quicker Vbox record than the 6.86 we posted. It is pulling speed quicker and harder right now. We want to take it to the drag next winter, as it is getting hot now. Hopefully the results will be excellent. This beast is really FAST. It literally spanks my SLS right now. It also looks absolutely stunning.
Again, Thank you Steve for giving birth to this Weistec Stage 3 Beast in Qatar.

Impressive dyno results mate. How much boost PSI are you running on the engine?. Your making big numbers. It seems the transmission was built to handle the power. However, did you do anything about the internals (Pistons, Rods, cams, lifters)?. If you havent changed the internals, how much boost can the stock engine handle?

The upgrade was done with the stock engine. nothing was changed and engine has never been opened. We are runnin on 11 psi boost. I believ weistec tested the stock M156 @ 14-15 psi. Therefore, 11 psi is safe.
In order to increase the boost one would have to go with the upgraded engine internals from Weistec. Boot can be inreased to 18 psi and power would be around 800 whp.

Just wanted to share what we use for our Ice Tank. We have found that Prestone Antifreeze (RED) is so far the best coolant to use for the Ice Tank. right now in the Middle-East Temps are between 95-100. On our OBD, IAT's dont go above 39C ~102F on normal driving and they dont go above 45C~113F on WOT.
It really work good with us in the Middl-East. I am sure it will even work better in the USA.
You can buy it from Amazon, they offer it in a six-pack. The Ice tank needs about 3.
The 671rwhp/617rwtq Pull was done using Prestone Red

Prestone is usually used for GM cars. Im surprised you found it to be useful. It's quite good that you did. Did you try the normal Mercedes Antifreeze blue coolant? It works pretty well for Mercedes radiators, I would assume it would be the same for this ice tank.
