ford svt's, and C63!!!
RWHP gains with headers and tune? Seems a bit too good to be true?
I keep seeing "tunes" and "headers" giving very favorable results in the hp department, I'd expect between 25-45hp increase with headers and tune, but people seem to be doubling that, and I'm skeptical to say the least.

Why so skeptical? Many cars across the board are limited big time from factory... I will not be able to do a dyno proven before and after of my C63 (which I pick up tuesday) because it is already tuned but if I may use a different platform...
My bmw 135i from factory dyno's at 265whp/291wtq on 91 oct. After a tune, downpipes, intakes and an e85 mix it's at 450whp/476wtq. I know, different car, but the point is just how limited cars are from factory. The gain in the bmw is 185whp/185wtq just by opening it up a bit and some e85.
I don't doubt for a minute that once you get these v8's tuned and flowing a little better that you'd see the gains you have seen around the boards.

This identical engine produces about 510-520 HP in other AMG variants with the difference being just mapping and exhaust, and even then there is still room for more power. I wouldn't doubt the numbers when independant dyno graphs, drag slips and roll-on races are behind to support it.
I find little reason to doubt the substantial gains to be had from a tune+headers when those mods, the C63, and its engine have been around for about 6-7 years now.

Talk to anyone who's dyno'd their car before and after a tune. A 40-60 hp gain is very manageable for a tune alone. Once you add headers and an exhaust, add another 20-40 hp.

A standard C63 will dyno around 360-375rwhp bone stock. With a good tune, L/T headers(no cats up front), mid section, and posssibly no secondary cats but maintaining the resonators and stock rear half of the exhaust you can expect 440-475rwhp. The stock exhaust manifolds are the primary restriction along with the primary cats. Like stated above a good tune will net you 40-60rwhp and adding exhaust mods will net another 20-40 so you stand to gain 60-100rwhp depending on what tune and headers you choose.

C63 is a different case.
You need to remember that this is essentially the same motor as used in other AMG (E63 / S63) variants (pre TT versions), where it happens to make 510 (550 with AMG development package)
So, in essence, I am not surprised that the 6.2 makes 50-60 RWHP just with a tune.
