Air filter DIY
Haha, I went through all the work to replace my filters with K&Ns only to find out that there are already K&Ns in there so I might as well make it a useful experience
Btw, some users have reported that these throw CELs. Mine don't and I read on another thread that a member patiently waited a few more days and the CEL went away.
Anyway, here it goes...
Gently pull off the front engine cover. There are a total of 6 clips, but 3 of them are a bit tricky. You literally just pull them straight up. Here is a picture to show you the locations. They may require a bit of muscle.
Once you pull that off, you'll see that the filter covers have 5 star screws, pictured here. After you remove those, you can easily lift off the covers and pull out the filters.

Haha, I was just providing a step-by-step for anyone who might want to upgrade filters. I made a mistake when I bought them not realizing I already had a set

I don't have any pictures, but I wanted to add that removing the whole filter housing makes it a bit easier to ensure the filter is seated properly.
Simply unplug the wiring to the air sensor underneath the small silver covers, and using a flathead screw driver to unscrew the metal hose clamp. Just be careful pulling off the small silver covers as they are plastic and can break easily...like I did mine.
Remove the whole housing and insert the filters. I found it easier to insert the filter into the housing (instead of the casing on the engine) and reassemble by inserting the back part of the housing into the hosing first, while making sure the back part of the filter is properly seated first. Reattach everything and it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.

It's the oil used on the K&N filters that coats the mass air flow sensor and throws the CEL.
When cleaning the filters, use the oil sparingly. K&N sells a filter cleaning kit. You only need to clean them every 10-15,000 miles.
