In the middle of my EDP and it just started snowing- HELP
Hi! As some of you know I am on my EDP trip, anyhow I am kind of worried because there is going to be a snow shower tomorrow and I was wondering if any of you have any advice or tips. The road I am taking back to Germany goes through the swiss alps and is extremely tall and winding but there is no avoiding it. I have never driven in the snow and I know many of you don't drive your C63s through the snow either. Typically you guys have a winter car. So yea please let me know if there is anything I should do or prepare for or how to prepare. I am on edge about the whole snow thing as you can tell

master of the obvious, but just drive slowly and don't make any sudden movements. be smooth. it's similar to driving in a downpour. and also watch out for ice patches ... sometimes they are hard to spot (ie, "black ice"). you'll be fine.

Well, this is a hairy turn of events. Just follow maximus's advice and you should be okay. Your tires are new so that tread should be on your side. Just stay in the tracks of the other vehicles and let ESP keep an eye on you. Just back off the gas if you see/feel ESP kick in. No sudden braking or accel.

Do you have snow tires? If not, wait it out. I once drove down a mountain in OR on summer tires after a June 9th snowstorm. It took two hours to go two miles, all pretty much with the car sliding at a 45° angle to the road. I've never forgotten the sight of passing a new BMW 5 series on its side in the roadside ditch.

What Bhamg said. We have long excrutiating winters, but the alps are a nasty place to be caught in a snow storm. Just don't....it's not worth the risk. If you absolutely have to and have poor tires, buy chains.

Definitely wait it out.. No way our cars can handle even half inch of snow with no winter tires.. Espescially in the mountains/ hilly roads.

I would NOT advise driving in the snow. The car on stock tires will probably not move (happened to me second day O got my car, had to get my friends Talon to tow me lol) and if it does it would be really tricky to drive up mountain roads without proper tires. Only if you have snow tires can you start acting like my sig lol

While I drive my C63 during winter, I wouldn't recommend driving with stock tires, especially in the Alps.
I don't mind driving with proper snow tires and/or ESP-OFF.
I once drove mine with summer tires on a day where we had sleet. The car had trouble having traction with whatever ESP setting. I can't even imagine the car moving at all in deep snow.
And since you aren't used to winter driving, wait it off.

I'd sit it out. Snow at this time of year will have high moisture content, and if the road has the frost out of it like I'd think it would by now, as soon as any accumulates on the road surface and a set of tires or two runs over it, instant skating rink. Chains would be the way to go if you MUST travel, but unless you're trying to make a bedside vigil for a dying relative I'd wait for the roads to clear.
All that being said if it's only a CM or two then the flow of traffic (if it's a busy road) will keep the pavement clear, and carry on.

Hi guys thanks for all your replies. I just checked the conditions outside and there is no snow on the ground just on the roofs of the houses. I haven't been outside since it is 5:30am here. But the snow has stopped any further advice?

If there is snow on the roof, it means it's cold out.. So be careful & don't get fool cuz high performance tires are not friendly below 10C .. I'm not sure in F, but must be around 32F.

10 degrees Celsius is 50 degrees Fahrenheit. It will not be getting that warm here unfortunately. It won't be that warm for awhile here.

Call the police and ask about road conditions as well as the forecast before you leave. Remember that weather can be very volatile in the Alps. Good luck whatever you decide...
