Suspension noise over uneven pavement - any thoughts?

My 2011 C63 just turned 18,000 miles and I've noticed a bit of noise when driving over uneven pavement - like tar strips in the road or slight variations in the pavement that seem too small to fully utilize the struts' vertical movement to absorb impact.

The best way I can describe it is a slight "wobble" noise when encountering the pavement imperfections. When the car goes over actual bumps, there's no noise other than the compression of the struts. I'm not sure if the noise has always been there, but I'm definitely noticing it now that the weather's hot and I'm driving with the windows down.

I had the dealer check out the control arm bushings and there are no signs of cracks. The tires are new, the wheels are fine. Any ideas on what the wobbly noise is?

I think you should have them take a second look. I had what sounds like the same noise on the front passenger side and it was the control arm.

Matt, is this separate from the steering wheel vibration issue?

Matt,

I want to compare noises, my 2011 makes a swooshing sound from the front wheels. I am not sure if we have the same possible problem.

I went on a test drive with the shop foreman at MB of BH and he said the noise was normal. He put the car on a lift and checked out the control arms, bushings, steering, etc and they were all "just like new" with "no signs" of wear.

It's frustrating because the C350 loaner I had was exceptionally quiet on the same streets where I hear the noise in my car. It also doesn't help when everyone at the dealer says "how can you hear anything over that exhaust!"

Max - This is a different noise than the steering column rattle which seems more to do with a loose airbag cover or some component in the telescoping system that causes a small amount of play over bumps. I think I'll take it to Santa Monica after the 4th to see what they can find.

It's curious to note that when I'm down in OC I never hear a peep - so clearly it has something to do with our crap roads in LA.

Maybe we should have another mini meet, this time on my street, and see if other C63s have the same characteristics!

did you have them fix the steering wheel problem? just curious.

and yeah, another mini meet is a great idea. my car has it's own set of quirks and weird noises as well. would be cool to compare in person.
