Head gasket issue. Extended Warranty

Head gasket issue. Extended Warranty
Hi guys, I'm looking at buying a 2010 C63 with 50,000km on it. I will be purchasing an extended warranty through Mercedes.
I've read about the head gasket issue, which was enough to raise an eyebrow and make me put the signing pen down.
Is this covered under extended warranty? Canada.
I think I may have a problem as well. The car was bough from Mercedes, then the current owner ( A sales rep from Mazda ) has listed the car through Mazda (where I'd be buying it). Which translates into, no extended warranty for me?
Really ticked... This may have forced me into a 335is coupe.

you better make sure that Mercedes will let you buy ELW. I have heard that Mercedes will not cover cars bought through private sales. If you can buy ELW, then you should be covered.

I would still go for an ELW since there are many other things that can fail and cause a major dent in your wallet.

seems like people get varying info re being able to get ELW. i'd suggest calling various dealerships or even MB Canada. FWIW, i bought mine through a car broker and was able to get ELW (USA).

Can you PM me the information of the broker that helped you? I'm also looking to buy an ELW.

btw. the current owner who bought from mb is the only person that can buy the extended warranty and transfer to you after.

Here's what I was recently quoted for an extended warranty from my local dealer:
4yr/100k miles - full car, $5000
4yr/100k miles - powertrain only, $3500
This is with them knowing that I'm no longer within my mfg warranty, and I am not the original owner.

A word to the wise...TIFWIW. I had two recent conversations with people who work for MB in different areas. What I took away from those is that if you have/had a tune and/or headers, you can forget about coverage under an MB extended warranty. That includes the transmission. I'll be going the ARP route this fall having refunded my MB 7/100 warranty recently.

I think MB will be taking an increasingly hard line stance on these warranty issues in light of the number of modded C63's out there now vs. high ticket repairs such as with head bolts. I asked point blank whether a tune would affect say, a transmission (extended) warranty claim and I was told "yes." There's no point in keeping a costly warranty if it doesn't cover engine or trans IMO.

At one time I looked at the Easy Care policy offered at Simonson (Santa Monica). It seemed to offer a high level of coverage, very comparable to the MB policy but for less money (obviously). Personally, I would only buy a non-MB policy from a dealer with a higher-demographic clientele...the store has a lot to lose if coverage/fulfillment is problematic and the client is dissatisfied.
