here's a paranoia question for you guys:
is it plain and obvious to see whether or not you have an MB LSD versus normal diff? i have p30, and was just wondering if i ever take my car into the shop, would it be possible for the tech to swap it out for a normal diff without my knowledge? (yes, i mean steal it).

Yes it's possible if you're not there starring at your techs work.
What's your story? Do you feel your car perform differently? Does something feel not right? Maybe bring it to another indy shop and see what's going on?

Very interesting question...and I don't have an answer, however I'd like to know what's raised this question for you? I know you can DRIVE it to find out the difference, but I'm not sure how to tell just by looking.

sorry to cause alarm, guys. no, no story per se. i just always wondered bc i know LSD's are bucks, and i was just thinking what's to stop a shop from swapping out diffs.
as for test driving it, i have to honestly say that i havent driven the car hard enough (i don't go nuts on the street, plus i either have kids in the car or traffic all around me), plus i haven't driven a non-LSD C63 so my butt hasn't ever been calibrated to know the difference.

Good question and it makes you think. I've heard stories where people get things swapped like brakes, rotors, pads, etc...
P.S. I'm now kind of leery on my repairs that I'll have done soon.

So on our automatics, just hold brake while hitting the gas right? Not a troll question lol, I've never burned out, but want to in the future. Just have to find a nice place. To make it special for my first time.

for starters in a parking lot, turn your wheel to lock and give it just a tad bit of gas. not really enough to spin it but to get moving. if you hear one side of the rear end scuffing - thats your lsd (the benz limited slip one) my quife doesnt do that since its not clutch type and neither will a stock one. You can raise the rear tires up off the ground with the car in park (not parking brake). try spinning the tires. If it has lsd is will be extremely hard to turn if it will even let you. if one side spins relatively easily and the other tire starts spinning the opposite direction its not the amg clutch type lsd. stealing it seems a little rediculous. First of all not many techs own a benz much less an amg. Techs dont have time to drop yours out and theres and swap them out at the same time with no one noticing. Its not like it can be done in 30minutes its somewhat involved.
