Looks like they grabbed a part from the Euro-spec bin. Euro-spec vehicles don't use as many words, especially English in a German car, but rely more on symbols.

It is not nonsense, it is 100% accurate. ROW and Canadian cars use that button, the US cars say Start/Stop. ROW & Canadian cars have symbols in the gauge cluster (like the parking brake for example, whereas the US cars say "BRAKE"). The US cars are somewhat different in that they use text whereas ROW is symbols only.

U.S. has one official language.
They do not want to deal with French and English for Canada, thats why you see more symbols on our vehicles rather then words.
Same as Europe. So many small countries with different languages so symbols are much easier for productions.
