i actually have this code right now too (along with P0071). i think it's just the sensor (located near the front bumper somewhere) is probably bad or loose? should be an easy fix. you might also notice the temp is off. my car says its 46F when it was more like 75F out.

EDIT: are you sure that's what P0072 is? I'm showing it listed as

P0072 - Component B4/7 (Fuel pressure sensor) has an electrical fault (per https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...7-request.html).

if that link is wrong, anyone have an idea what P0071 is too? P0071 - Plausibility error between signal of temperature sensor in intake pipe and signal of outside temperature sensor ?

I have 2 codes and one of them is yours. Not sure how long it's been going on since I just got my reader few weeks ago and read the code. No dash lights or CELs.

I had a thread up about it a while back but too lazy to find it.

P.S. Car feels fine, though.

probably seeing to large or a difference between intake air temp at the mass air sensor and the ambient temp sensor since its soooo damn hot in texas. Have you had the ecu updated or reflashed with newer software?

The temperature probe has fallen inside your engine bay... had this happen on my slk it said the outside air temp was around 50 Celcius which is not possible where I live. the computer on the car has a temp gauge inside the air intake as well so it knows when something is screwy like the outside air says its 50c but the air coming in the intake is only 30 c

i remember checking my car before with the same tune and i didn't have this stored in there... so this is a new code. that would lead me to believe it's not tune related

It isn't tune related. I got the same code. Could you check your codes with torque? I want to know if you're getting P2070 as well. Might be a related issue

i don't have the torque app but i have dash command and logworks. and both of those show the same code for me.

anyone know if this would prevent me from passing inspection?

no it wont prevent it from passing state inspection, unless the check engine light is physically on. However constantly clearing you codes will cause it to fail from not being able to pass the readiness tests.

well i took my car to the dealership yesterday to have them look at the code. and they told me later that they would need a complaint for them to do something about the code... the tech said the code is generic and didn't know what it was and it was a code that wasn't in their SDS system. (this was before a tech even looked at the car btw)

i told them... well, the code is there... it shouldn't be there... it's stored in there to where i can't remove it... my scan tool shows the code and i can only give you so much information on it.... soooo that's my complaint

they ended up clearing it out.

mercedes doesnt use obd2 generic codes. It gives detailed codes that tell a lot more information so no tech is going to know that the generic obd2 one means because it could be alot of things. your going to need about 100 miles over 3 separate drive cycles now in order to pass state - for the obd readiness monitors

yep i knew that already... but i could only tell them what information i had from my reader... i had already made attempts to clear it myself with no luck... they were able to see it, verified a code (i don't know what code though, it wasn't listed on the report), and then cleared it... i checked later with my reader to see if it was gone and it was...

i'm ok with inspection for now... those monitors should work themselves out soon... i usually check with my reader before going for inspection so i don't have to waste a trip there...
