C63 507 break in period
Hi
I have 1000km on my car. I never pushed it more thant 5000 rpm once or twice
The say the break in period ends at 1500 km
After that, they recommand to push it more but not to hard
What can i do and not do and for how long?
Thanxs

I read that people drive it like they stole it right off the dealer lot; no issues. I'm not going to say I've gone to that extreme but I have certainly seen what this car is capable of.

if its going to fail, might as well be sooner than later... you know like while its under warranty. Ive never done a "break-in" on anything ive ever owned and never had an issue. Just make sure you've got it up to operating temperature and warm oil temps and you'll be good.

Just warm the engine and transmission up and do whatever you want with the car. Modern cars are smart enough they won't let you do anything too stupid to hurt it and besides you have a factory warranty. If any parts are not up to standard, might as well as have them break under warranty rather than when you are out of warranty.
I've heard that a lot of heat cycles are good for a new engine as well as not letting the RPMs sit at a constant speed such as during highway cruising. Also change the oil once you are done with break in.

I had the same question, the sales rep said "When they do amg track days, they get brand new cars and stick them on the track. These cars never end up in the shop."
Avoiding constant loads as mentioned below is probably the only consistent message I have heard with respect to running it in, other than that I would just drive it like you would normally drive it.

I changed my oil at 1000km to clean the engine. As for break-in, take it easy for another 500km then it's up to you what you want to do with the car.

The break-in has more to do with the tranny than the engine. You are not suppoed to drive it in M until 1000K, supposed to leave it in C if I recall from when I picked up my C62 in '11. I usually make it through one tank and then that's it.

I agree with the above being that the break-in is much more for the tranny and rear diff. However, as I mentioned before many have driven their cars hard right off the lot and I haven't seen any common transmission or rear diff problems. These things are engineered and built extremely well; almost overkill driveline components are used (which I'm all for).
If this was a Chevy forum, my advice would be a little different. Transmissions, rear ends, you name it, they break in stock form due to inferior engineering, component selection and overall build quality.

For peace of mind, you could drive it easy...under 4k rpm for 1st 1,000 miles. But from what I understand, these motors are already broken in from the factory.

Do what makes you comfortable, I was over 150mph in my car before it had 150 miles - so far runs great, doesn't drink oil, and I'm (really) enjoying every mile
