The new C-Class is set for an official debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show in January, although Mercedes is likely to release its own photos of the car much sooner than that. Already the automaker has shown us the interior and some of the technical details for its latest 3-Series fighter, and so far the car appears to offer a level of luxury, quality and technology not previously seen in the C-Class.

Underpinning the car is Mercedes’ flexible MRA rear-wheel-drive platform, which also features in the larger E-Class and S-Class models. The platform features a mix of aluminum, high-strength steels and even some composites. This has helped engineers shed some 220 pounds off the weight of the outgoing C-Class, while also allowing the new model to be safer and more rigid.

A number of tech features have also been borrowed from the car’s bigger brothers. These include air suspension, vehicle surround monitoring systems and more advanced active braking systems.

Powertrain details are yet to be released but expect a turbocharged 1.8-liter engine in the base model, followed by a V-6, some diesel engines and even a hybrid. The AMG model is tipped to receive a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8.

Once again Callmiro, excellent find. But you can't just post and not state your own opinion. What do you think? Coming from my gorgeous 2010, I think it is too foofoo looking for me. Although they might integrate differently the Nav for the AMG so visibility is better and it might get a little rougher around the edges for a sportier look...so far so sad....yeah technology is awesome blah blah blah but I like the look of a car from the outside when I see it coming or walking to it...

This suggests the curb weight for new AMG Cxx will be around 3,700 pounds. I'll believe it when I see it but if true, fantastic. That in itself will be a major achievement.

To be honest Zeph....im kinda diggin it

I really like the new interior....looks very slick and polished...kinda like the S Class Coupe

And im liking the exterior...I like how the trunk drops down, instead of the usualy high a $$ line

The new lights on the E63 are pretty slick and these look prettt awesome too

The new Audi S8 has a 4.0 TT and it pushes way over 550hp

The top should be the standard model. The bottom the AMG.

This looks pretty good. The overall design and aesthic is crisp and athletic, which augers well for the AMG version, which we're all dying to see! Hopefully they flare the rear fenders to match the front - one of the biggest complaints from the W204 generation.

the new e is the same way...luxury package (top pic) and sport package (bottom pic). the amg will more closely resemble the exterior of the sport package model.

I agree. Its too similar. It gives the Es a nice sporty touch, so this may be a good thing. Wonder how it looks on a C in person.

I'm liking the interior, I bet MB is betting they can turn the corner on us liking the stick on Ipad nav screen. I might be turning, not sure yet. I like the long lengths of wood down the center dash, and overall, I'm just plain liking the interior.

This car is really following the new MB design front, back and inside. Looks like a mini s class. Yet to see the AMG model but it will probably be soft as well.

Loving the headlights, it will look awesome like the new E-class headlights.

I'm not liking the rear dropped trunk style. It doesn't flow with the square shaped front.

Interior looks so sweet! Also glad we'll finally get heads up display! Have you guys seen this image? The other potential pics I've seen of what it might look like seriously don't interest me at all. But THIS --- if they drop this car I'll be throwing my money at the screen if they go with this exterior:

looks way to CLA-ish ...whats with all the car companies becoming females? every car these days is so girly...maybe thats just me

You think so? I did notice lately the car companies all trying to have some kind of symmetry with the looks of their cars. Lexus all doing the similar grills and headlight themes and even the same thing with Merc. The thing I love about this is the front bumper is VERY similar to the current c class. But the front end just has a sexy front end. You do have a point but I bet you if you drop this thing and put wheels on it- it'll look just the right amount of aggressive

i mean i love the front end my self also...it does look quite agressive (compared to an 09)...but the rear end looks like it's got a fat ***? you know what i mean? you meet a girl with a gorgeous face but shes got a huge ***...kinda like nicki minaj ..could be just the angle though also
