It's that time of the year again.. Snow tire questions!

After having my C63 since 2009 it has not seen snow yet. This is the year!

I do not plan on taking my car out during blizzard conditions but I hate the feeling of worrying about getting stuck somewhere while I'm out or checking the weather 5 times a day to see if I can take my car out or not. I've been doing some reading and I've decided to go with 225/40 as per MB spec on OEM 18" wheels, most likely the Blizzak LM60's. My concern is how long will these last me? I drive about 75 miles a day for work, so I will be putting a decent amount of highway miles on these, even if it is only for 3 months out of the year. Will they last me at least 2-3 seasons?

I'm very near you and bought Mich PA4 on dedicated wheels from tire rack.

Blizzaks are best for deep snow, but given the mostly just cold driving we have with sporatic snow that gets cleaned up, I think the PA4s are best.

I've been waiting for the last minute to change, but see we may have a little snow tomorrow morning.

Looks like Saturday is the day to throw on the winters and touch up the calipers...

Thanks for the reply. Keeping in mind the price difference do you think I'll get that much more life out of the PA4's versus the LM-60?

Pa4s come with a 30k warranty (15k if you use diff front and back sizes). I went with the 4x 225 set up.

I'm running the following:

Front: Pirelli Sottozero Series II - 235/40/18
Rear: Pirelli Sottozero - 255/35/18

On stock 18" rims. Works great in Toronto.

I ran them for about 3000km last winter and there was no real tire wear that I can see.

I had the LM60s on my 2011 and I bought new ones form my 2014. I did three winters on them and I averaged 1200kms a month so they lasted 18000kms, not bad although the rears may go sooner. You really can't hit the gas until well into 3rd with winters but it does the trick. Tire Rack has a closeout sale and jump on it while they are in stock at 150/tire USD, which is extremely cheap. If I were you I would buy 6.

It is a good tire and I had LM32 on my G37 coupe before so I am familiar with these tires. They are good and quiet although the best winter tire I think that I have had was the Michelin X-Ice, but for the price it is not worth it. It is a little bit better but not, IMO, to justify the extra cost and especially where you are , you don't get snow like we do up here.

Got these from Tire Rack, Elbrus rims, whatever that is!

I ordered LM60's with the new BBS SR (winter) rims from Tirerack. I'll post photos and initial reactions on Sunday when I put them on. That $150/tire deal was too good to pass up.

2014 E3504W
Michelin Xi3 Ice

I have used every kind of snow and after reading the Tire rack reviews I spoke with one of the reps. I also saw that Consumer's rated this tire the best snow and ice. I do a lot of highway driving and this tire will give the best ride and is equal to the Blizzak WS 70 on snow and ice., and much better than the LM-60 on ice. All of them are good, but I am ordering the Michelin this week for install on the new 2014 E350 Sport I am picking up Saturday.

Looks like I waited too long and missed out on the deal on LM-60's. Not seeing them listed on TireRack anymore. Getting ready to order these PA4's..

EDIT: after further research i've decided go to 235/40 on stock 18" to avoid stretching too much in the rears. TR didn't have any PA4's at this size so I ended up with the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's, which were the tires I wanted to get last year anyway but ended up not.

My car doesn't have LSD, how much of an issue will this be for me even with snow tires?

The roads around me get cleared pretty quickly and usually we know ahead of time if some decent snow is on the way. I'm primarily trying to avoid checking the weather 10 times a day on those "ify" days where it's a few hours long battle deciding whether I can/should take my car or not because there's a 30% chance of snow.

I drove mine with Dunlop Winter Sport 3D and an open diff in very harsh winter conditions. It's ok. Not the best, but still ok if you decide to drive the car with either ESP sport or off.
A LSD helps a bit and is more predictable with the same tires and with ESP sport or off.
Personally, I didn't buy another set of Dunlop.

I put on my winters this weekend, went with Vredestein Wintrak Extreme in 235/35 and 275/30 sizes on the 19" AMG multi-spokes. Haven't dealt with any snow yet but pretty impressed on handling in the dry/wet so far. Ride is quite nice too, noticeably softer than the Michelin PSS... those were getting a bit hard in the cold weather mind you.

Pretty happy with this as a winter setup...
