Thinking about adding this to the stable
Guys, I am looking at getting the wife an AMG so she will quit driving my E63. I have some concerns. Namely this statement about the car on the website:
" Mercedes Benz of North America repurchased this vehicle from the previous owner to promote customer satisfaction. Mercedes inspected the vehicle and it met all manufacture specifications. Buy with confidence as this car comes with the full remainder of the factory warranty through 12/28/14 or 50k miles. "
What is your take on this?
Also, I ran the VIN and did not see a code P31? Does not show up on the data card.

It means it was bought back. Could've been a problem car that had issues being diagnosed or someone that decided they didnt want it anymore and cried and cried. Ive seen cars bought back for really dumb things like alignment problems or missing options they thought it had or they ordered but didnt realize till the deal was finalized.

Looks like a nice car if you want to buy a car that was someone else's lemon. May turn out fine, may be a disaster. I'd request the vehicle's service records to determine the nature of the car's issues, and go from there. Best place to start is with the VIN and with a service advisor with whom you have a good relationship.

my wife bananas! :D
it was definitely a lemon. not many reasons mb would buy a car back.
imo look for another c63. lemons = many trips to the dealership = wife drives your car anyways

Good words guys. What does MB normally do with a car that was returned because it was a lemon? Is this what happens? If someone was to buy a lemon and they start taking it to MB when does it end? Will they keep working on it until what? Buy it back again?
Never really thought about what MB does when they get one back.

As someone else suggested, see if you can get all the service records for the vehicle and find out what the initial complaint was. The ad says that the car was within spec, so it is somewhat unclear what the complaint was that caused MB to buy it back (especially w/ 30K miles on the clock). For all you know, the original owner could have been complaining about excessive exhaust noise at WOT or excessive rear tire wear. If it is a real issue then stay away from it, but your best course of action is to find out more about the car first.

I really appreciate all your comments folks. I have declined based on your inputs. I am now looking at a 08 CL-63. It looks goregous. I think i am spoiled. I don't think i can ever not own AMGs ever again.

Yea you may be right. No luck so far on getting a third party warranty. Not interested in owning an AMG without one. I may have to suck it up and fly down to Hot Lanta tomorrow and pick up an E550 coupe. There is a really nice one that has a good warranty. All the bells and whistles.
