Tapping sound on 2014 507 ???
Hi all,
I took this "video" ( the audio is what is important) this am after I heard the sound in the video.
It would be a huge help if anyone would like to chime in as to what this may be? The sound did go away after 2-3 minutes when the engine warmed up.
I have read that it may be the lifters or on some earlier models defected camshaft and lifters??
I have an appointment at the dealership Monday AM to find out what they have to say.
Other than this noise the car has been truly a joy!!!
Thank you all for taking your time.

Lifter noise. Does it speed up when you rev it?
How long has the car sat before you started it?
The hydraulic lifters tend to bleed down after sitting for awhile.
Goes away once car is warmed up and oil is at optimal temp.

Car sat for 14 hours or so in a garage with the temperature around 58F.
Yes the tapping got faster when the rpm's climbed.
after 2-3 minutes maybe a bit longer the tapping sound was gone.
I will start it after sitting for 8 hours and see the results.
The car has 800 mildly driven miles , broken in according to spec.
I am wondering if it needs oil? It just seems like a brand new AMG engine should not make this sound.
hope its a one time problem.
I read other posts about tapping sound on the M156 but nothing really was resolved.
Thank you so much for your input and I am admiring your stable in the driveway.!!!

I am experiencing the same problem!! Glad to know I'm not the only one, but a bad place to be nonetheless. Exact same issue, tapping while the car warms, then it is completely gone, until I wake up and drive the car again.
I thought it might be the sound of the heat exchange between the cold pipes and the immense heat starting to heat and expand those exhaust pipes. That was my guess because the tapping goes away once the engine is heated. Figured it was just the metal expanding and things that were cold starting to get hot. Any thoughts on this?
However, I also feel the same way. It just kind of bugs me that this happens. I am wondering maybe if it is something else. Let us know what your outcome is, or let's continue to get together to see if our tapping problems, match or are really similar.

I'm thinking low on oil as a possible real quick fix.
The noise on the post headbolt issue engines was supposed to be gone I thought.
We may find the problem with all of the knowledgeable forums members.

You have the new/revised head bolts, this is nowhere related to that issue. Don't over-fill your oil as that will lead to all sorts of other issues read the dipstick, the car will tell you if you are low on oil.

Very common, particularly if engine has not been run for a while (ie weeks rather than hours).
I thought I had broken a valve spring or something the first time I heard it happen on mine.
Only need to worry if it fails to go away when the engine warmed up.

Car sat for 18 hours or more and the tapping noise was GONE!
Im thinking it was a one time issue.
If it comes back I will pass it along.
I read tapping was an issue with some of the older builds but on the 507 they swapped out some internal parts from the M159 and fixed the head bolt issue.

I had the same "issue" when my car had about the same number of miles on it and similar scenario (car sat for about 14 hours). The noise went away after ~5 mins or so. I took it to the dealer and they said this was common and not something to worry about. I have never had the noise happen again and I now have about 3500 miles on the car.
Definitely let everyone know what you end up finding out, but I am sure its nothing..

I get the tapping noise in my car when I haven't really driven it for two or three days. Just moving it a few yards and not going anywhere. After taking the car out and driving normally the next day it is fine, no ticking noise at all! The sound it makes doesn't sound as loud as in the OP video, however.

I had this happen once also at about the same number of miles. went away after warming up and hasn't happened again. Now going in for my 2,000 miles LSD service.

actually sounds more to me like the purge valve which is right next to the windshield washer fluid filler neck and abs unit, directly behind the drivers side headlamp. But its hard to tell from the video. It just seems to consistant of a tempo for a lifter. If it's the purge valve it's normal.
