C63 2012 brake pad replacement
Coming up on 18K miles and will need to replace brake pads within next 1-2 months.
Given that I do not track the car and have the standard (non-ceramic) braking system, what choice(s) do I have other than to have the MB dealer do the pad replacement with whatever is MB replacement pads?
I am OK with the MB replacement (dont have any noise and not much brake dust), but am curious to hear what my options might be.
Any experience info will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys, John

^I was thinking the same. I put 24k hard miles including a track day and still have a ton of meat left on the pads. Sounds like you are getting ripped off. If not, how many sets of tires have you gone through?!

I would recommended the porterfield R4-S pads... would be a perfect pad for your needs. These are good in stock and we could easily take care of you if you'd like to come and visit us in San Diego.

There is a good write up here on DIYing your brakes. It is very easy.
Also, unless you drove with your foot on the brakes constantly, you should not really need new brakes at this point. I am at 90k miles and only on my third set of pads (second for rears, but I could have left the first set on because they had plenty of life left, but I had already purchased pads so I replaced em).

Yeah 18kmls seem a bit early for brake pads.
Who recommended this to you? Stealership?
But back to your question OEM pads are fine for your needs. If you want less dust and dual application (street+track) pads you have the endless MX72 or porterfield R4-S.

For everyday driving, there is no reason not to use engine braking. Pulling the paddles to run the engine speed up and hear some engine revving sound is more interesting than just stepping on the brake.

I read somewhere else that engine braking and rev matching saves fuel n prolongs engine life

James and ACG I believe installed these for my 2012 CLS63...and I loved them.

Dealership stated to me that there was about 500 miles left on the brakes of my E that was 2 years ago, what a crock. I have checked them faithfully every 3 months and the car even recently passed a mechanical check with ease. A good indication of brake wear is look at the brake master cylinder reservoir if it is near the top then the linings are good. This is true as long as you did not add fluid to the system. Good to look when buying a used car also, will give you some sort of knowledge on potential issues.
But 18000 miles seems like the car was used for pizza delivery.

I found porterfield R4-Ss for my 10' E63, but can't find them for my 12' C63. I hate the dust on the OEM so I want to upgrade. Anyone have an idea where I can order pads? I have Non-ceramic rotors.

C63 T-model with PP, E63s T-model
woooow , I am now on 45,000 KM and just started looking on my pads , as think they will need replacing soon, still few thousands km to GO i guess
when I was buying this car I was NEVER EVER thinking that those pads can stay there for that long.
Get before just 200-250 hp hot hatches where the pads lasted for @ 20,000 km so was expecting the pads here will be @ same , but to find out you can do 72,000 km on 1 set of pads on C63 is JUST WOOOOW
and back to the original question, on my previous car I was going also for "better" pads - CL5+ yes they were great, but they eaten the disc (which isn’t cheap item with PPP) quicker than the pads themselves so I am staying with OEM for the next replacement

My C63 I track once a month. I run EBC yellows pads. Get about 3track days per front , 6 track days rear.
Rotors, I have been using Centric's. Last about 3sets of pads.
Centric are heavier than MB OE , but MB OE stress crack after one track day.
Both EBC and Centric cost about 1/3 the price of MB OE.

Love to say that I'm absolutely happy with EBC redstuff , no dust , no noise and stop on time when ever I need , so my advice is to go for EBC red stuff

How's the R4-S's on the E63 compared to the oem's in terms of performance and price? Is the R4-S's for the E63 available in both front and rear? Would you mind post up a link or PM me on where you bought them for the E63? Thanks.
