can a bad intake camshaft adjuster cause pinging?
a question for those with engine knowledge. I just had my intake cam adjuster replaced, and seems like my engine pinging has gone away. coincidence?

Car has knock sensors. It would retard timing to avoid ping.
Unless you have a tune that has limited the ecms ability to retard the timing.
If the adjuster wasn't advancing the intake cam when it's supposed to, that would increase the compression as the valve would close earlier. It's called dynamic compression ratio. The higher compression could cause pinging.
