2 week old car (2k miles) Burning oil on cold start?
This morning when i started my car after sitting over night it spit out a noticable amount of bluish white oil burning smoke.
The car has 2,000 miles on it, which ive owned since the 8th, and the break in period was followed "almost" perfectly. There was never a full load applied during break in but i did bring it up to 5-5.5k a couple of times.
Before anyone yells at me to read up on the oil burning threads of the M156, I have.
I am posting this to ask if anyone has experienced this so early with their cars?
Ive got an appointment to take the car in on Monday but would like to hear from you guys if possible.
Thanks in advance

go beat on it some more. 2k of following the instructions it isnt going to be broke in. Just drive it how you plan on driving it like it's meant to be. It should be broke in by 5k. It took my smart about 2500 to break in and i beat on that poor thing non stop.
it may also be oil in the intake manifold pooling up. consider getting a catch can these cars put a lot of crankcase oil through the intake

I should have clarified, when it hit the recomended 1k i started hammering on it.
Also, i do plan on a catch can very soon, its still suspicios that it would already be smoking though. The questionable part is that it seemed (unconfirmed) to come out of the passenger side bank. Is the factory resonator an H-pipe?
Tomorrow i will check if it smokes out both sides.

Pretty normal on these motors on cold start, if it doesnt go away once everything is up to temp you have an issue, otherwise nothing to be concerned with.
These motors are oil burners due to higer than normal amount of engine blowby. An oil catch can is highly recommneded even on a stock car. If you take apart your airboxes in about another 1000 miles I bet you see a good coating of oil in there.

Sorry......what is the best catch can setup for these engines?

Good to hear from senior members.
And i do agree with the ring seating, however i do consider my driving harder than most average drivers at least for the last 1k miles(just an opinion).
The car will see full load multiple times a day, but i dont see this stressing the engine much with these factory tires. Its like their made of soap!
Either way i guess ill continue to drive it hard and see what the tech's have to say about it Monday. Glad i have a warrenty and pre-paid maintanence!
Thanks for the input

I've noticed a puff of smoke on startup, especially if I only started the car for a second or two beforehand. I've already had to add a quart of oil on the first 1000 miles. I've been told it is normal. My manual even tells me to add a quart of oil about every 1000 miles!!!

Weistec is the only option I know that will fit. It also happens to be extremely well made. I installed mine at like 500 miles on the odometer. I checked it after 1000 miles and it already had a little liquid in it. Glad I got it.

Mine doesn't smoke and I've barely had to add any oil in over 12k miles, but romped it from mile 1 (actually mile 14.3 plus the time it took for the oil to come up to temp lol)

(a)'12 C63 P/P, LSD, 19" m/spoke,comfort pack. (b)Astra SRI.
Pretty normal.
I had the same, & I was worried at the time!!
You'll find that if you have driven the car gone for a drive etc, then drive it into your garage without stopping the engine etc, & then, next time you start it up the next day etc, all will be fine.
But if you drive the car home, stop it when you get home, and then later put it in the garage, you may get some smoke on your start up the next morning? (short engine run)
That's what I had, car never uses much oil, now done 26000ks.
Cheers, Pickles.

I pretty much hammered mine from day one too and no smoke. I've probably added 2 quarts of oil over 23K miles.

Well what do you know, No smoke today.
Does anyone know of a place to by the machined fittings (pcv and intake/block side) for a catch can.
The weistec catch can is VERY nice, but over $500 is rediculous.
There are many other air/oil seperators out there of equal quality for 1/3rd the price.

I purchased Weistec's catch can 5,000 miles in. That thing catches so much oil its sick. The most noticeable is when i have a night at the track. The car only has 7k miles now. I cant believe if this part wasn't on my car, this would all be burned in the engine. I don't know about you guys, but i will pass on engine detonation. We service Porsche's that have an Air Oil Separator FACTORY for these issues.
