Help On Fog Light Bulb SOCKET

First of all im not a car/computer techy guy..so im bad with searching in the net. LOL .Anyway i have a hid foglight kit on my car and i heard (coz i didn't see it when they installed the kit) that in order to install the foglight hid kit they have to drill the oem socket so they can put the bulb. Im tired of those flickering lights when turning , i know i can just turn that on but im leaning on going back to the original/oem bulbs... Anyone knows the part number of the bulb socket or the after market h11 bulb with the socket will do? Thanks.

What do you mean by flickering light when turning? Are you talking about the cornering feature (convenience package). Just turn that off!lol!
Otherwise the bulb in the fog light is H7 not H11.

In your instrument cluster you should go to menu where you can check your messages or service information. There is a sub-menu for changing the lighting convenience like leaving your lights on a few seconds after switching off or when you unlock your car.

My bad i just tried myself unsuccessfully!
I would suggest the philips H7 diamond vision bulbs for a better match between xenon and fog light. I have them on my car and i like it.

If you turn the fog lights on, they will remain on and not turn on and off as you trun your steering wheel.. or course you have to manually turn them on and off when you leave the car or it dings at you...

I run my light switch in the low beam mode and turn the fog lights on and leave it that way. The car does not ding at me when I turn it off and I don't have to switch the fog lights on or off or change the position of the head light switch unless I want to set it in a different mode for some reason.

1) I'll just leave the fog light on and skip auto mode.
2) The fog light has a standard H7 socket but the problem is Mercedes has a proprietary bulb holder which would prevent the aftermarket HID bulbs to be inserted probably. BMW has done the same thing. But luckily for Mercedes owners, that holder is nothing but a piece of metal. You can find it easily on eBay.

The aftermarket H7 bulbs are fine. I just put in Nokia hyper Yellows... As the previous owner did originally. I like that look and people see you coming on the highway.

Yes the Nokya bulbs are fine because they're halogen bulbs, which technically work the same way as stock bulbs do and have exactly the same shape as stock bulbs have. But the HID bulbs are different in a way that aftermarket ones always have a "tail" consists of two connector wirings. HID bulbs physically don't fit the stock bulb holder which is designed for Halogen bulbs.

Not sure but I think you will need to replace the whole fog light unit.

That is a H11 bulb I believe and the one you want is a H7 bulb. If I remeber correctly the connector makes it look like a H11 but the bulb that fits the fogs is actually a H7. Get a Philips diamond vision set if you want it to match bi-xenon lights. Search ebay should get you a set. H7 does not have the right angle connector on the bulb it plugs straight in.

There's been lots posted out there about the following…this is an example to keep in mind when going the ebay route (or even amazon as it seems).

Beware of cheap counterfeits! The China-made lamps duplicate nearly everything....even down to the packaging. However, the moment you turn on your lights, is when you'll see all the fake's shortcomings; weak illumination, short bulb life, high current draw, high heat and in some cases - destruction of your lighting system's wiring harness. The total cost of materials(including packaging) is about $5.00USD.

Philips NV has long been aware of mass copies of their product, and has implemented a non-duplicating, factory Seal of Authenticity now. If you don't see this at the top corner of the sealed box - don't ever buy it.

Now, on to the REVIEW:
The difference between the REAL Diamond Vision bulb and the fake, is like night and day. The genuine bulb lights up the road. There is nothing dim about the genuine Philips product at all. You get a crisp, blue glow of intense white light, projected at the center of the beam. Oncoming drivers have never flashed me, because they were blinded...like in OEM HIDs. What you are getting is honestly about 80% close to real HID illumination - for a fraction of the cost. The secret? Philips uses Aluminum and Potassium Silicate-treated Tungsten Carbide filaments, encapsulated inside REAL Quartz Crystal...not cheap blown glass, like in the counterfeits. The result is increased Lumens, and undiffused white light.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely....ONLY if it is Genuine Philips Diamond Vision H1. This bulb is far superior to Sylvania Silverstar H1, Osram Cool Blue H1, Hella High Performance Xenon Blue H1 and PIAA Extreme White H1...and trust me - I tried them ALL!

Any identifying numbers on the socket at all? Doubt it's a Mercedes specific part.

I've been looking for a H7 fog light W204 socket for the past 9 months too.

Mort was right, unfortunately. You'd have to spend a bill and purchase a whole fog light housing just for the sockets that go on the back of the fog light housings.

Gents I have HID fogs and the cornering feature was driving me nuts

It can't be switched off by US but the tech at my dealer was able to by coding the SAM and turning the feature off. Try talking to a cool service writer or a good tech he should be able to sort you out. Also I got a canbus ballast locally which does not need those pesky canceler's piggy backed to the HID ballast. They were cheap and eliminate the warning canceler's that always go bad.

Hope this helps

Mike, how did you install your HID fogs? Mind sharing some insights?
I half assed my install and ended up with the pictures above

I took the OEM socket that allows you to plug the stock H7 bulb on and dremmeld the part until the HID build would fit. I used some electrical tape and heat shrunk it so that it's nice n tight.
