Solved my "too loud" headers problem [updated + video clips]
Hey guys, I'm loving my c63 since I did some work on quieting down my long tube headers!! If I've lost any airflow, I can't tell at all. In fact it seems even quicker now. I've added my central oem muffler back on and took off the x-pipe. I also added two custom silencers with a balance pipe. (See attached pics)
The results are.... I have a deeper tone again like the original car, my cold starts aren't waking up the neighbors from 10 blocks away, I can drive without sounding like a nascar and I can still open her up and scream down the road or gear down like a c63 with headers should sound like. My car is very fast now and feels much smoother than stock. I'm so happy I found a way without having to take off my headers.
I have a couple iPhone video (audio) clips but I'm having trouble trying to upload them on here. If anyone wants to hook me up with their email and I can email my vids and you upload them on this thread for me that would be awesome! One clip is a cold start (not super cold in Tokyo though) and the other is a few 3000-3500rpm.
Oh, also since it's winter my car doesn't get washed as often as summer so its a bit dirty.

These cars do like some back pressure rather than none, so I would imagine you are feeling more torque possibly. I wonder if you lost top end horsepower. Do you have any dynos before ?
Beautiful work anyway.

Thanks, the guy that works on my car is awesome, he really loves working on c63's and has his own weistec stage 3 supercharged and every possible mod done to his own BS c63. It's nice being able to trust him and his work is amazing.
Thanks and I totally agree with you!
Thank you. Yes it does feel like a increase in torque. I haven't dyno'd my car previously. I'm not a regular track guy, mostly a city driver. I just love the low end power. I am going to the track again in less then two weeks (Fuji Speedway) so I will be able to tell if the top end horse power has decreased. I'll let you know

Wow that cold start sounds great! Definitely at an acceptable level for the early am. Great job to your installer... Does he want to come to Buffalo, NY and work on my CLS63? Lol

i'm attempting to solve my too loud problem with 2 measures:
1 - Random Technology 141-30000 Metal Core Cats
2 - SuperSprint Mufflers
I'll have the mufflers installed mid next week. Then I'll put the cats on when they arrive..... decided to put the cats in to get some of the back pressure back from going with a 3 inch setup....and the smell has been pretty bad when I'm idling in traffic. I can't have my windows down and if I have the AC on, I start to get some of the smell when idling.

Thanks mike
I agree, totally acceptable for having longtube headers. I wish I had taken a video clip before the work I had done to quiet it down. Haha I doubt he would come to America but the work is really well done

I know what you mean about the smell, the worst is when you're driving in the morning hungover and you get a wiff of the gas smell and feel even more sick hahah.
Please post a clip after your work is done, I'm curious to hear your car

getting my header from mike at mbh soon
mid pipe will be made for the header crowd
issues found
keeping cost down (super pricey) putting 2 mufflers and cats (100 cell)
would need a group buy of 10 or more the make it under $900.00

- Will it matter what headers you have? ie how will they connect to this setup?
- What does the "balance pipe" actually do?
- In the picture below, what actually gets replaced by this setup?
- I assume cutting of the existing exhaust is required?

He makes one of the best headers Period. So I will fab to make it work with his and others using a general connector ( VBANDS)
Balance pipe will help with flow
Everything in the pic with the exception of the resonator.
No worries we were all newbies at one time
