Quaife Diff leaking
Hi guys,
I installed the quaife aftermarket diff about 3 years ago and recently the diff started to leak as i noticed fluid on my driveway underneath the rear of the car. I took it to mercedes and they have now sealed the diff twice and checked the casing but cannot find any external problems with it. So i have a few questions that i was hoping you guys could help me out with
1. im guessing something is wrong on the internals so would it be better to just get a new unit or try and mend whatever is broken internally?
2. I was doing some research and something internally might be broken due to bad heat regulation because the quaife diff does not come with the cooling fins. Can cooling fins fit on any of the aftermarket diffs the vendors here sell?
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you guys!

The diff is usually the internal center section of the rear end, when you say there are no fins on the housing if it is an AMG then there should be a bolt on fin section that attaches directly to the housing.
Are you saying that a complete center section, with housing from Quaife was installed and your AMG diff/housing was removed?
Where is the rear end leaking, axle seals, pinion seal or vent.
Remove the vent and check for blockage and proper operation, it is a spring loaded ball bearing for internal pressure release, will flow only one way.

I think he meant he installed a Quaife LSD in an OEM fin-less pumpkin ( or housing)
So he would need the finned diff cover + heat sink.
As for the leak i was thinking seals but since MB replaced them twice I'm short of suggestion now.
Are you sure the fluid on your driveway is diff oil? It could be coming from elsewhere

Hi guys,
My car never came with the diff so i had the quaife one installed aftermarket. But yes, the housing never came with the fins and i think overheating might be the culprit in causing something to have expanded internally and cause a leak.

Yes, im 99% sure its the diff fluid, i put white cardboard underneath the diff area and the color and stain is the diff fluid. Luckily the leak isnt too bad at the moment but i rather not try and "mend" a diff from the inside out.
Ive talked to VividRacing and am going to try out the wavetrac diff as i hope it works out better. Im also going to attach the OEM cooling fins that mercedes has to this diff to prevent any sort of cooling issues.
Could someone explain to me the purpose of the heat sink vs. the cooling fins? Ive googled it but couldnt find much helpful info, thanks!

There are no difference between the heat sink and the cooling fins.
There are the same heat reduction system for your rear diff. They complement each other.

For the past 3 years my quaife never gave me problems. Some C63 without OEM differential had fins and some with don't have fins, I don't think it makes much a difference. https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...al-cooler.html
