Braille Lightweight Battery Kit
We installed a 15lbs. Braille 2015 battery in our car to go to the dragstrip. It's a simple way to lose some weight. To mount the battery we custom made a bracket that fits where the stock batteries go and we decided to make some extras and offer them for sale to you guys if you are interested.
I will ship them out in raw aluminum. We spray painted ours and you can easily do the same thing in any color that you prefer. This bracket will safely secure a Braille 2015 battery and it also remains extremely light as it is made with aluminum.
If you are interested in one I made a couple of extra and I can always make some more.
Price $85.00 plus shipping
This is the battery and bracket in our E63S
Raw battery bracket. This is how we will ship it.

On a C63 it is 50lbs. The C63 uses a larger battery than the new E63 so the C63 gets more weight savings. It's a very low cost and simple to install mod for C63's that are going to go to the drag strip. A very easy way to pick up 1/2 a tenth in the quarter mile.

Is this only recommended for drag cars and not for street use? I have a c63 and have an under drive pulley so I've been worried about not having enough juice with a 15 pounder

I run several 14 lb wet cells in much smaller displacement cars. After hand cranking the 6.3 with a breaker bar and pipe extension I wonder that your battery of choice will turn it over at all. My bats are around 280 amp hrs.

Well that was my next question for a daily driver with all the luxuries - can you get away with a Braille?
I know that Porsche is going to this lightweight technology in the 911 for regular use.
I did this in my 911 but it is a stripped down street/track car - no accessories.
There are lots of amenities in a C63 that require juice...anyone know what the pull is with all of them on?

We only install this battery when we go to the drags trip. I would not suggest this battery for daily use and it has a very low reserve capacity. As a lightweight battery it will easily crank and start your car, it's not like the batteries that a lot of people have tried that is designed for stereos, this particular Braille battery does have a lot of cranking power, it just doesn't have a lot of reserve.

I ran this battery for a whole season without removing it. It starts the car fine, but don't try leaving the radio on or using it without the engine running.
Switching batteries, removing everything in the trunk, passenger seat and back seat will remove 200lbs from the car fairly easily.

Definitely not a good idea running this in a DD... I ran this for a little over half a year and it gave me issues and was a pain in the *** when it wouldn't crank over in the cold. This was all with the 18lb Braille too. On the other hand, if you are using it only at the 1/4, it's well worth it!

For those who got the itch but are hesitant...go buy a lawn tractor battery for chump change to see if you can live with it . Then give it to your neighbor if it does'nt work out. Readily available in 260 and 280 amp hour at 14 and 17 lbs. Several sources.
A typical week in my dd's . Go to the mailbox . Check charge - down from starting. Trickle until back up. Go to town and back (50 miles)-no problem with 5-7 starts in town. Park car xmas flight, 30 degrees F. Four days return. Car starts. The cars are older and basic-very little "off' current flow.
I DO fuss and worry a lot about charge depletion. Never a problem, but lots of trick charge. Even on the little cars the bat yields 15-20 lb weight reduction. But winter lows are seldom below 20F, mostly 30F here. Enjoy.
A great looking al bat holder, probably worth a pound. Mine is sheet al with pop rivets, but I had to eliminate metal in the top piece with plastic. Too much electrolysis ( deposits) with accompanying drain. Every milliamp important in this setup.
