2013 C63AMG VS 2009 BMW335i
Hey guys,
Was wondering if you could help resolve a dispute.
I have two friends with both the above mentioned cars, and wanted to see what you guys think is a better car.
The C63 is tuned with catback exhaust with LSD, while the BMW 335i RWD is FBO+meth with LSD as well. Both cars have about the same power, but the AMG was a little quicker and alot more linear, and the 335i.. well its turbo'd so comes in chunks.
The AMG has stock suspension with an aftermarket strut bar, while the 335i has koni shocks with swift springs. Having driven both, the AMG is alot more firm, and rolls a lot less. IMO a better ride as the 335i kinda crashes over bumps.
Both cars went on AutoX, and both cars were pretty much neck to neck for timing, till the end, where the AMG led by 2.6s. Do you think this was a fair race, and that its down to driver skills that got the 2.6s ahead, or was it unfair because the cars are completely different.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks.

The AMG will be a better track car. The 335i with the N54 engine is a very capable car, but it's no M3. Its engine however, responds extremely well to modding. FBO N54s with Rob turbos can make 500whp... :O

^ Easily. My 135i for $28k + dp's and tune ($1200) was faster than my neighbors m3.

used to drive tuned 2008 335i before switching to c63 amg, I personally still think the c63 is a better track car (tracked both cars and amg just feels more solid on track) although the 335i is a very balanced and a well modded one can be a real sleeper!

Yeah, thats what i thought. I mean the 335 is fast, but its no M3 in the handling department, even with an aftermarket suspension.
But i just wanted to see how you guys compared your C63s with such a tuned 335i.
Thanks guys.

A tuned 335 is a very capable car as others have mentioned. Especially with full bolt ons. But the N54's have relatively small sequential turbos, to get 500WHP out of the car will take some $$. RB Turbos + FBO + Meth/Tune.
Compare apples to apples. Put 10K into a C63 and you have a monster with an extremely Linear Power/TQ curve for every day driving. It will always be a better all around car. To me the 335 is no comparison really.
Don't forget Forced induction for the c63 puts the car in a different realm. lets figure 15K installed for a stage 1 Weistec SC. On a STOCK C63, easily 500+WHP! and you have a 50 state carb legal car that drives totally like stock with the exception of the power / TQ increase.
The M156 is just all around the better engine.

Well modded 335s can beat out most tuned M3's as well. Unless they're running a supercharger of course!

I owned a 335i prior to my C63, all I had was a used $300 JB4 tune & it was already pretty quick on Map 2. I threw in about 4.5 gallons of E85 autotuned on Map 5 & I walked a E92 M3 from 50-90mph by 2 car lengths, but I was probably testing my luck since my stock diverter valves would have probably blown any second & I exceeded the recommended boost limits for stock downpipes. Talk about bang for your buck though, the only thing is I don't think I ever had a car break down as much as the 335i did lol, when it was running it was great, thank god for extended warranty.

Yup, because the C63 platform IMHO is a better starting point to build from.
At 500WHP you are maxing the heck out of a 335. To get 500WHP out of the C63 is only scratching the surface of what the M156 engine can do with a forced induction setup.

If you spend the extra difference between the 63 and 335, use that money to mod the 335 then it should definitely beat the 63.
But bringing money into an argument is pointless in my opinion. The C63 is an all round better car, but a 335 is a very VERY quick car!

I traded a loaded 2008 335i (N54 and sport package) for my C63. It was very nice and very fast. BMW 335 E90x are quite competent cars that are fast and easily tuned. Best non AMG/M/S in the segment.
The C63 performs on a totally different level, and is much MUCH faster.
^^^ Yup the C63 is viceral and RAW compared to the composed 335.
As far as cost and reliability the 335 wasn't really cheap at $58k, and was only in the shop once or twice apart from scheduled maintainance. However, after 5 years of ownership my warranty had been up for over a year, and I knew I had been lucky not to have had any expenses and was operating on borrowed time. I had wanted a C63 since the coupe came out and figured it was time to trade my 335 convertible while it was 100% and the sun was still shining. Haven't looked back, and even if I did all I would see is tire smoke and rapidly disappearing scenery.
