Looking for charcoal filters
Hi,
I've recently purchased a 2009 C63 and I'm looking for the charcoal filters to change the air-box back to stock and hopefully fix a CEL.
Thanks!

Good luck finding those charcoal filters. I literally mean it; and let us know if you do. I've talked to multiple dealerships and none of them knows what I am talking about. Even my indy mechanic (service advisor for MB for 20+ years) was surprised when I showed the charcoal filters to him.
Anything short of buying a whole new set of intake covers, you're going to have trouble finding them. Even then they might not come with charcoal filters.

I'm getting bank 1 & bank 2 lean codes.
I've reset the air boxes and verified they're sealed. Replaced k&n filters with oem and cleaned the MAFs.

i have a set of charcoals w/ approx 12k miles. The question is how much are they worth to you? lol. I can promise you they wont fix your problem. Id love for you to pay me 100$ to prove to yourself you're wrong The only way you are getting them otherwise is with a new airbox.

Have you tried clearing the codes with an ODBII tool? If there's nothing running wrong with the car, then you may just have to live with the CEL on. Last resort is to take it to the dealership (under warranty if you still have it) with the paper filters and tell them you're getting a CEL. It may be a leak somewhere besides the airbox. That turned out to be the case a couple of years ago for me.

Yeah, that's my next step if charcoals won't work.

It seems to be a issue with '09 p30 models being sensitive. I'm just going off of what I see on the forum.

If you think your cel is caused by your K&N air filters being too oily, take them out and wrap it in newspaper or paper towels to soak out any excess oil for a few days. In the meantime, use your OEM paper filters.

I've replaced them with oem for now, I was hoping that would have fixed it. I'll wrap my k&n though!

Your MAF sensors might also be the problem. I had lean bank codes on my 09 in the past. Faulty MAF. New MAF sensors, problem fixed. Had nothing to do with the filters. Just a suggestion if nothing else works.

Thank you, I just sprayed MAF cleaner around the front of the intake and had a stumble. I'm going to tear into this tonight!

Ahhhh
I swear I kept a set out of my 09 for a long time after the car was gone, just in case someone needed. I threw them away like three months ago.
As others said, charcoal by itself does not cause a cel. Many of us took those out without ever a problem.

For those who say charcoal filters don't cause CEL, thats not true. On my 09, removing charcoal filters caused a CEL EVERY SINGLE TIME. Went away after a 20 minute drive with them back on, i kid you not. On my 2013, 10k miles later, not a light.

thats because your car has other problems.
