Quick Question About Lug Bolts

I have a set of Forgestar CF10's installed on my car. Just wanted to know if it's ok to use the OEM Lug Bolts that came with the car. I am not running any spacers at all or anything.

Never put different wheels on a car before and I probably should have asked before doing so.

With Forgestars, probably not. My Forgestars came cone seat (straight tapered with no radius). OE lug bolts are R14 ball seat (curved/radiused). That's a definite no-no to mix up the two!

Lug bolts

Give tal at acg an email or pm, he can set you up with the right set for your wheels. I received mine with the locking bolts quickly.

I would think the only damage you could've done so far is to the bolts themselves.

Or the rim. The bolt is probably harder.

I'm sure you'll be ok. If you replace the bolts one at a time just look at the first few lug openings in the wheel with a flashlight. Chances are you'll see a band where the bolt made contact. If you put your finger in there I doubt you'll feel any kind of indentation, and if that's the case no need to obsess about anything. You do use a torque wrench, right?

Clean the questionable seating area on the wheel with a clean rag and solvent . Take a blue marker pen and color the proper lug nut and seat. Tighten it half way and remove. Look at the bluing. you should see good contact marks where the bluing has been smeared away in favor of steel to aluminum contact. Unlikely that the seats have been ruined. Clean off the bluing. IMO

bhamg-right on

And I believe you are at 90lbs torque when you tighten, if I am not mistaken...

Short answer.... No you should not use the factory lug bolts.

All forgestar wheels are designed to be compatible with Conical seat lugs, not the ball seat type the factory wheels are equipped with.

The radius of the ball seat lugs will only touch half of the surface at best that they need to effectively clamp on the wheel with. Not optimal and certainly not safe.

I don't want to get terribly in depth and nerd out but invest in the correct set of bolts and ensure they are torqued to spec often.

Not only could serious damage occur if a wheel dismounts while the car is in motion but you if that so happens you could put yourself or others in extreme danger.

Hope that helps
