First C63

Picked up my car Monday from the dealer, best experience I have ever had at a dealership. Couple things I noticed (big sticker in the window) and was told before driving off the lot was. First 1000miles/1500km not to rev the motor pass 4500rpm, no kick down and not to go over 85mph/140kph. That very same day I went on a road trip to visit family and friends and I am close to the end of the break in period. Once that happens am I free to drive the car wide open? or wait a little more in the miles? Second did most of you guys wait to change the air filters once the papers where close to being done? or did you toss them once you got the car home. From reading some posts all I know if I do change them to go with drys.

nice 507! not sure about the filters, but I'd say you're free to let it rip once you hit the 1000 mile mark, otherwise MB would've made the break in period longer.

First off, congrats on the new beast!

Second, with respect to the break-in, some people like to follow the break-in procedure to the letter.

Most folks around here subscribe to the following: Once the vital fluids have reached operating temperature, drive the car however you'd like.

You can use the AMG temperature gauge menu to keep track of the oil and coolant temperatures. Once the oil temperature is no longer in blue font, the oil has reached operating temperature.

Welcome

The filters are an easy swap. One of the first mods I did was change the air filters and replace the turn signals. After the first 1000 miles, the price you paid gets less significant. Happy driving!

Nice 507! I have AFE dry Pro S filters and also charcoal delete and from personal experience there is no difference as far as butt dyno is concerned. After a year without charcoal filters, i put them back on, since I might as well use them.

I don't quite understand removing the charcoal filters, help me out here. Aren't they just to cleanse evaporating fuel vapors from the fuel tank? How does/could this affect vehicle performance?

They are a restriction to air flow to the intake manifold. If you take them out potentially more air will flow through and the ecu will adapt for it allowing more fuel and making more power. I have seen claims of 5-10 rwhp on a dyno. Nothing you will likely be able to feel on the seat dyno.

Sometimes, especially on 2009 models, it seems the ecu cannot adapt for the increased air flow and you can set a CEL for running lean.

I just bought Weistec dry filters... will those with charcoal filters cause a CEL? I really don't want to be troubled by that headache, especially while under extended warranty.

@Dogtag: I've been running the Weistec dry filters with the ROW air box since the car was new in 2012. No CEL. You should be fine.

Dogtag, just try them and see how it goes. If you get a CEL put the charcoals back and try that. I just switched to Weistec and removed my charcoals so time will tell but I don't expect any issues. My car will not be back on the road till sometime in April.

The best way I have found to install filters is to take the CAI tubes off in front of the airbox, loosen the clamp at the rear of the box and lift and pull the airbox carefully right out of the engine bay. The airbox has two dowel fittings and a large rubber nub a spring clip fits over. It is easy to do once you have the feel for it. To reinstall, hold the box up at an angle and slide it into the rubber tube at the rear and when properly positioned snap it back down into place and re-tighten the clamp. This way you can take the boxes apart on the bench, change the filters with everything lined up easily and screw the top back down. Much easier to get the filters in and positioned properly. Snap the CAI tubes back in place and you are good to go.
