HRE, Vorsteiner, Avante Garde, Weights, Oh my

Vorsteiner V-FF 101 vs. HRE FF01 vs Avante Garde M510

I am a little torn. Initially it was between the Vorsteiner and the HRE -- close to the same in price.

Then I stumbled upon the M510's -- close in style to the Vorsteiners for almost half the price.

Then I started thinking about unsprung weights:

My OEM 18’s: 25.7lbs and 26.4lbs
Avante Garde M510 19”: 26lbs and 27lbs
Vorsteiner V-FF 101 19”: 22lbs and 23lbs
HRE FF01 19": 23.5lbs and 25.1lbs

Those are the weights I could find online -- can anyone confirm?

And past that -- are those deltas in weight going to be noticeable?

Please discuss.

I will give you my experience with the HRE FF01's. I don't have experience with the Vorsteiner or Avante Garde wheels. But do know they are both decent wheels.

I can tell you with my setup, the car launches quicker, rotational mass is such a killer for performance, so any reduction over the stock setup is a benefit IMHO.

I have the HRE FF01's in 19 x 8.5 upfront and 19 x 9.5 Rear. Advan Sport Tires 255/30 Rear and 225/35 Front.

I saved a total of about 4-5 LBS per corner, I definitely feel the difference. The car feels a lot more nimble, but does not feel as "planted" at higher speeds. Now this can be attributed to tires and of course less moving weight.

Things about the HRE FF01 that not many people know.
  • They are 100% made in Japan (My guess is either Rays / BBS or Enkei) produces these wheels under the standards set by HRE.
  • The offsets provided by HRE for the C63 are a bit weak, My set is a bit of a Frankenstein setup, but I am running a ET 30 upfront and ET 44 in the back. The wheels were originally made for a BRZ, I had them filled and drilled for use on the C63.
The Avantegarde is probably made in China, not saying the quality is bad. But it will be the cheapest out of the bunch simply based on manufacturing location / quality standards. The FF01's are the only TUV approved wheel out of the 3 you mentioned.

The Vorsteiner's are also rebranded wheels. They are made for Vorsteiner by another manufacturer (Forget who but they are not proprietary).

Hope that shed some light on your questions. If you need any other input let me know.

Made by Enkei, I have the same wheels on the S4 but other then weight reduction and a little bit of increased stopping power with the bonus that the wheels look great but other wise it didn't do much and yes get the HRE's visited their facility everything is top notch, as Kriston said its the only wheel thats TUV approved

I decided on the Vorsteiners, I was leaning towards the HRE's but I liked the look of the VFF01's that much more. At the end of the day I have shaved off 3-4lbs on each wheel -- hopefully notice a difference.

Wrapping the Vorsteiners in Michelin PSS -- 245-35-19 and 275-30-19.

The Avante Garde's wouldn't clear the brakes so they were not an option.

Thanks for the comments.
