How Are Your Plasti-Dipped Trims/Badges Holding Up?
I am entertaining having my trims and badges dipped. I will then clear them for a more permanent product so I am not dealing with chipping, wearing, discoloring, etc.
Anyone completed this task? How is it holding up?
I will more than likely attempt this over the next few weeks so I will probably take progress pics and complete a write up.
From the research I have done thus far, it appears as though only a few coats is needed to give a good coverage, I will probably use 5 coats as that is what is recommended by my local body shop that actually offers this product now. I will then clear it with Clear Coat, or the Gloss product offered by Plasti-Dip to enhance the black of the dip. I am not going for a matte look, I want more of a shine or gloss black appearance.
I don't think I will attempt the grill as it is a high impact area that I feel will give into rocks and bugs. I will probably just buy a grill, speaking of which, anyone recommend a good gloss black single line grill with good fitment on a pre-facelift?
Let me know your experiences.
Happy Modding!

My trim is holding up great. No issues. I have a set of wheels on my Lexus that are dipped for winter use and still look great, even after multiple car washes and road salt. I would think the grille would hold up great. My grille is wrapped and it has some chips. Dip is very tough, like a nice rubber coating.

I have dipped a lot of items on my car, and the only time it has come off, is when i purposely removed it.
See pics below.
And i have taken them to car wash cafes, and use high pressure hose. Never a drama.
GRILLE & FOG LIGHTS
BADGES & BOOT STRIP
LOWER PART OF REAR BUMPER (BIG CHROME BIT FROM FACTORY)
LOWER PART OF FRONT BUMPER (BIG CHROME BIT) + FOG LIGHTS + INSIDE OF HEADLIGHTS
ON WAGON- FOG LIGHTS + GRILLE SURROUND
REAR BOOT STRIP
CENTRE STRIPS OF GRILLE + FOG LIGHTS
RR SIDE VENTS
GRILLE SURROUND

Yeah grille is no problem
I do 4 coats on grille personally.
Though first coat is REALLY LIGHT.
Just search YouTube for peoples tutorials on how to do it good.

I dipped my badges, rear star emblems, the rear chrome trunk lid and my fog lights. I wrapped the rest of the chrome pieces.
I recently re-dipped after a year because i didn't do a great job in the first place. So with time and car washes my 6.3amg side emblems were starting to peal at the edges. When I first did it I left them on the car. The 2nd time i took everything off the car.
I think giving it a clear coat is a great idea to make it shine a little bit more. But the purpose of plastidip is to be able to take it off at anytime without any difficulty. I don't know if applying a clear coat will help with that .
Either way you cannot go wrong with plastidip. I applied 6-7 coats.
As for the single fin grill I would go with the OEM one (although it requires a simple modification). So many replicas on ebay that you cannot guarantee the fitment.

Great pics! Yes I applied multiple layers on all chrome on my car and powdercoated the wheels (did not want to risk plastidipping the wheels) and have had it for almost 18 months now (only redid the plastidip one time)
