First time at the Drag Strip with my 2011 C63
I have a 2011 C63 that is completely stock except for an OE Tune and some Nitto 555R 275/40-17 drag radials. I went out to Wild Horse Pass Raceway (was Firebird) tonight. It wasn't very crowded because it was very hot, over 92F. My second run with everything off was my quickest, 12.675 at 112.35 with a 2.011 60 foot time. It corrected to 12.11 @ 117.672 MPH. But I was not very consistent. Next best were three runs of 12.9's at 111+. Then the rest were 13.0 to 13.2 at 110 to 111.
I could not get a good burnout with the Nitto 555R drag radials, they are 275/40-17 mounted on a set of rear wheels off a 2010 C300 (17 x 8.5). I was NOT running any TPMS sensors in the drag radials. First time I got on the car with the drag radials was on an on-ramp, they spun a little and then the car quit on me and started short shifting. And I had ESP off completely and was in Sport D1. I put it back in ESP Sport and it started shifting better. Later at the track I ran it with ESP off and didn't have the same problem, maybe it has to learn that the rear tires are a larger diameter????
At the track I tried both ESP Sport and ESP OFF, best was with it off, but like I said, when I backed into the water box, rolled out and got on it, I wasn't getting very good burn outs, not sure if both wheels were spinning or not and the car kind of jerked around. I had ESP off (held button for 5 to 10 seconds) and trans in M1. The best run was avoiding the water and just doing a dry rolling burn out. My best 60 foot sucked at 2.011.
If I could get consistent 60's in the high 1.80's and get some better air, I think I can get it down to low 12's and 116mph. Oh, this was with the 91 octane tune, I'm guessing the 96 octane tune is worth at least a tenth. Maybe 11's are in the cards if I can find some negative DA's and learn to launch better. But we never get negative DA's in Arizona, guess I need a fall trip to either Sacramento or Houston. Better yet, I think it's time to visit New Jersey and go to Atco.
Thanks,
Glenn

How come manual mode works better than sport D1?
Also, I realized I was probably running the wrong pressure in the drag radials. I had them at 24 psi and I forgot to lower them at the track. I was hot lapping so much I never thought of it. Darn!! Next time out in the Fall I'll try the tires at 17 psi to see if that makes a difference.

Well for starters Nitto tires just all around suck. I've used 4 different types now and non have performed anywhere near what i expected. The other key difference is they are radials. The tires he's recommending are not. With a radial you'll have a much stiffer sidewall so even airing it low wont particularly help as much as you think it will. Manual mode works best so you dont get short shifted if there is any slip. There is no learning with the esp system either. That was tire spin.

OK, thanks for the excellent info. Now I'll have to wait till it cools off next fall. It's just too hot to get very good runs here in Arizona.
However, just one bit of clarification, I thought the Hoosier Dot Drag tires were radials:

Do you still have your Vette?

Cool, I figured it was you, especially making a drag post haha. Yea, I still have my vette, I'm about to add a nitrous kit to it soon. I sold my tundra and got the c63 as my daily also. Only performance mod I have done is a renntech tune.
I took my C63 to the track once with Michelin PSS' and left them at 40psi (I wanted it to be just like I drive) and pulled a 1.77. I had the car in dyno mode when I done that which is everything off plus no power steering. Next time you go try that, maybe it will make a difference.

Edit: I just googled it, I can get my 2011 into dyno mode. I'll try that next time. Is it very hard to steer?

My car is an 09 and has it, you have to get to it like you reset the services before you start it up. Haha Well, I think it has a lot to do with how well they prep the track I went too and a little luck. I just stalled up to 1000 or so and rolled into the gas quick, it seemed to like that. I tried pushing it hard later and blew the tires away.

Hoosier dot drag are rated by DOT and can be used legally on the street, but it says right on them, not to use on highway.
They are only dot rated for a certain Nhra class that requires dot tires.
They are a pure drag racing tire with folding sidewalls.
Nittos are a street tire with soft compound. You need a soft sidewall to race.

Darn Dickey, you are my new hero, but I wish I'd known this the other night. I put it in Dyno mode and no more traction control. Oh, I threw a belt a couple of weeks ago and it was really hard to steer. But the dyno mode still has power steering, just lesser power steering than normal. It's very driveable.
Again, thanks.

Glad to help. I just kinda came across that by accident one day changing my oil. I didn't know it only cut the power steering back, I thought it turned off completely, learned something new!
