My First Dip

Had a bit of time on my hands and figured I'd give it a shot.
I have smoked side markers but figured until I install them the orange had to go.

I was going for this look:

I might have to try this. Been wanting a reason to try out Plasti Dip, this may be the one.

Looks great! but instead of covering with painter's tape and risk overspray, why didnt you just take them out? takes 2 minutes.

This and that.
Looks good man...taking them out is pretty easy but still a hassle. Looks like the area was masked quite nicely. Have you seen it at night? Do you see any light come through it still? How many coats did you do, looks pretty dark.

Took me 2 mins to tape off and 2 mins to remove any overspray.
To remove you have to remove some tabs on inner fender, unclip the bulb, then spray and put it all back without chipping the newly installed dip.

This way was just fine. There can't be an easier way.

The overspray wipes right off with minimal rubbing.

I just did it an hour ago so when I get a chance I will see if light can emit. I doubt it as I placed 4 coats dip and then glossified it.

You can still vaguely see some light coming through in the dark.
Nothing I can't live with until the smokes lens go in.

Glory of it all is that it can be "undone" in less than a minute. I was thinking the exact same thing when I dipped them, I should do this in white.
I probably will.
I actually got the black for my window trim and badges, but before I jumped into those I figured I'd start small and gain a bit of practice first.

Yeah I agree. I will be removing later on today. I will most likely go white.
Thanks

I've never seen white plastidip before so i don't know what that looks like. Interested in seeing it once done.

I am going back and forth with it. Once my CF lip is installed, I imagine it will all tie in nicely. I may wait to rip it off and see how it looks.

Said screw it and just installed the smoked lenses I bought a lil bit ago.
The dip just looked way to cheap to be on such an awesome machine.

Originally I thought I wanted something blacked out like the coupe I posted a pic of above to carry on my dark theme, but felt it just didn't look right.

I wouldn't say dip looks cheap. Maybe the black was a little obvious put if I were you I'd peel off the black, spray them white, and compare with the smoked lenses.

Those smoked corners do look good though.

Thanks man. I like the smoked. I don't think I will mess with them anymore to be honest.
I was just looking for a very quick fix until I found the time to put in the smoked ones and needed practice before tackling my badges and trim.
On the lens it just didn't go. I sprayed a few badges as well and peeled it back off. IDK I just am not a fan o the dip I guess. May just by black badges and wrap the trim or have it painted. Or just leave them alone.

Wrap the trim. The dip can be a hassle and also not come out great. Also, can be a bit of a mess.

Yea, it is more expensive to wrap it, but I don't think it would be too expensive and if you have a decent shop around it is fairly easy to do. Wrap also looks much better.
