What you need to look for is the software version.
Usually C3 is older than C4. Difference is C4 might include newest cars like the new E class, probably the new C class, etc ....
Go with the one compatible with your vehicle. For example mine is an 09 c63 which is available from 08 software version. So I can buy an older star diag (which will be cheaper) and be able to work on my car.
As for MAC I don't think this work with Apple. It usually uses XP and comes with a DELL or IBM laptop or installed on a hard drive.

I went with Autoenginuity over Star (only because I have other cars other than MB, Infiniti and Honda).
Typically, over the usual readers, you can actuate components, pull more information from the sensors, and in some cases, push updates (although I would not push an update to your car from a MB Star clone, which is what you are buying)

Honestly, and I am not advocating piracy, but if you are going to go the mbstar clone route, you can usually pick up the multiplexor pretty cheap, and find the software elsewhere.
