Plastidip. Hides the soot amazingly.

Optimum Metal Polish (the new formula).
I cannot recommend this enough. It takes the soot off in seconds (even if it has been caked and baked on for months) and leaves the pipes shiny and slick. It cleans AND protects. After you apply it, you can just wipe away any future soot accumulation with a dry microfiber towel.

Any dark spots you see are just shadow(s):

I clean mine with and old wash mitt and the soap I use to wash the car. The black soot comes right off on the inside of the tips. I also use Never Dull wadding to polish up the outsides and remove any baked on grit.

I use blue magic metal polish + Mcguiars polishing cone attachment for my drill.

One of my detailer friend recommended it to me. He said something about toothpaste has compound that easily dissolves carbon build up. I've tried it and it works great. I also use toothbrush to detail my leather seats, since its safe enough for human teeth/gum I'd imagine it wouldn't damage my leather.
