Motherboard problem
MB members please help, my motherboard has a problem. I have a 2012 C63 , yesterday, it started flicking on the dash, the engine light stays on as well after ignition and driving. I couldn't indicate or use anything on the steering wheel. The car still drives, but scared to drive it far, not sure if it's gonna stand and leave me stranded. I took it to MB dealership, they had a look at it but couldn't find a fault. Has anyone experienced this before ?

Well if it was a minor glitch and everything is back to normal now I wouldn't worry about it, especially if the dealer said you're good to go.

That's the problem, the dealer could not figure out what was wrong with the car, I took it in yesterday and they ran a check up, it's still acting up, the dealer booked it off for the next 2 days got to take in next week for 2 days

Well hopefully they will figure it out as they are the experts. I would hope they know what they are doing. Sorry can't be of much help, keep us all updated as to what they find. I am interested cause I've never heard of this issue before. Perhaps it's just the bulbs behind the cluster but I wouldn't even want to begin to speculate.

My WAG
Comm bus issue
Loose connector?
Any work done recently?
I assume you mean the instrument and steering wheel control system
Hard to believe no code(s)?

No work done on the vehicle recently and it's at 43000 miles. I'm starting to be very doubtful of the "experts" if they could not figure out what is wrong with a car after the whole day of trying to diagnose it. Love the car but would change it in a heart beat if it's gonna be a pain.

Was it 'doing it' when the dealer had it?
Do the gauges work
Radio?
Bad battery?
How old
Do you live in an area with harsh winters?

Yeah like others commented, what motherboard? If you refer motherboard to the dashboard instrument panel, that is more descriptive. Folks on this forum, or maybe other forums have replaced and recoded instrument panels... I just read that somewhere. ingenieur had some good ideas too of loose connector or chaffed, or shorted ground etc. I hope you diagnose and isolate the problem soon.

I call it the motherboard because that's what the dealership guys said to me. The radio works fine, NAV works, gauges work.
Loose connection makes sense, considering that there are no funny noises or anything when I drive.
I will certainly give you guys feedback.
Thank you

I had that happen to me in my ML63 ONCE.
Nothing worked, but car still driving. I was afraid i had no brake lights too.
Anyway, i stopped the car. It wouldnt go into park (the transmission is in the stalk, so electronic). I tuned the car off, and opened the door (that forces it into park), then closed the door, locked it. Waited 30 seconds, unlock, open door, start car.
All normal.
Never happened again.
I just put it down to gremlin.

Dealership has advised that they have found the problem, the instrument cluster is faulty, so they will replace that in 14 days when they get the unit from Germany, nothing available locally, in all the dealerships in the country, "the unit we had was sold just last week" what a tired line, anyway I guess I will see after they fit the new cluster if the problem is solved.

Oddly, there are a number of parts that are hard to get in the US and are not kept in stock by anyone, The Cluster is one, as it is one time use, once you connect it to the vehicle, there is no putting it elsewhere. Fuel pumps (I had both of mine replaced) had to be flown in from DE as well. Oddly, so was the rear sunshade, I had to wait 3 freaking weeks to get mine replaced while they waited on the part.

Guys just to give you some feedback on my problem I had with my instrument cluster not working. MB Dealer changed the unit with a new one cost at ZAR15000($1400). Warranty covered that I didn't pay a cent which was good. Everything working just fine now, picked up my beast yesterday took it for a rather invigorating drive I felt so alive
